You just have to look at the Stats for the Aussies Home and Away. The difference in their results is huge.

Fantastic in Aussie land, mostly rubbish on their travels

Isn't that pretty much true for all test sides?

It's the difference between a good Test side and a great one. At the moment there aren't any great ones.

Not that bad a toss to lose with the overhead conditions IF IF England can get Aus 3/4 down by lunch & into the newbies.

Early days but Aus riding their luck here at 23/0

Am I being harsh but Root should have had Rogers 3rd ball he seemed to pull his hands out the way maybe Bell going across him put him off.

This has 420/4 at the end of the day all over it. Not bowled well & looks an absolute belter of a wicket.

Bowlers look like they're bowling after 2 days in the field chasing the ball in 35 degree heat.

Very lethargic display so far.

Unfortunately agree with you. Got to hang in there and winkle out a couple just to get them on back foot for a few overs. A massive score could be on cards by tea tomorrow if we don't dig in now

And there is 1 Ali into the attack 8 off his first 2 balls then a massive skier from Warner, I can hear the old test purest spinning in their graves!

Looks like Australia could happily bat for a couple of days. Lets hope if they do we manage the same and play out the draw. With England you always have the fear that it will suddenly stop being a good batting track when we get in!

Paying the price for a cowards pitch. Counteract the oppositions bowling with the bat not the groundsman

I would expect Australia to now go on and get 550 +.

It's a good batting strip though. If England can get something like 475 then I feel the game could peter out for a draw.

Unless England lose their heads they should be able to post a decent score themselves.

Aus will bat too say just after tea wrack up 620& have 20 overs at England tonight which I wouldn't be surprised to see England reduced to 50-3.

I think we're in trouble in this one Otis. Good pitch or not being that far behind causes silly mistakes. I think the Ozzies will want to bat all day, really rub the bowlers noses in it then bowl us out twice.
I would have preferred them to have let the pitches do whatever rather than try and suppress the Ozzie bowlers. In Andrson, Broad and Wood we have bowlers who could be just as devastating. Poor show for the spectators

Up against it here. Will do well to get a draw. But it is possible if we keep disciplined. I expect them to declare sometime today...either just before tea or halfway through the final session. If we can bat through to close tomorrow with around 4 or 5 wickets remaining then it should be a draw but less than that we might be in trouble the final 2 days

Haven't seen the England wickets, but the word on the Beeb is that many were out to very poor shots.

Shooting ourselves in the foot here.

Struggling to see us avoiding the follow on at the moment. At this rate we could be onto our second innings fairly early on tomorrow!

Need some backbone.

If we lose another wicket it might be worth pushing Ali up the order. Buttler is a bit too cavalier. We need resilience.

another predictable day, I didn't think we would get over 300 but its all but over as a test match. I cannot see us bowling them out, they will get up to about 150 then declare and come after us.

This is more like what I expected this summer. In fairness winning one test has surpassed my expectations

Saying the same earlier, I have 0-4 Aussies so I was nicely wrong. I don't think we have the ability to dig in, we will get blown out of the water before too soon.

The pitch is dead. If the batsman play to their ability we will draw.

It is, but I think our batsmen's ability is to score runs and they don't have the aptitude to play out 150+ overs. Hope I'm wrong as I'm there tomo!

Bookies seem to agree, 4/1 on the draw, 1/4 Oz win.

Cook does and Root and Stokes also do. Bell is out of form but definitely does as well as Ballance. The top order if it keeps failing then sure we are in for a torrid summer. However, if it comes together then who knows.

They've all got the ability, but have they got the aptitude? Could be career defining for a few of them.
