What I’m saying the players we bought this season are for top end championship wether they will be good enough for lower end premiership if we get there we will have to see some might be doubt they all will. So they will probably move on. Look what Forest did last season, replaced virtually their whole squad touch and go for them but it worked.

You ain't the brightest are you? We've been incrementally improving for years, spending within our means and making profit from player sales, this season we've spanked millions and millions on players I very much doubt will double or triple in value.
We're 12 games into this season after losing our best two players. We've not our best 11 players out once.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a short amount of time. And we won't have blown all our cash as you suggest. A lot of our signings won't have all been paid 100% up front. There'll be add ons extra further down the line.

I still reckon we've got £10m from Hamer to spend in January as well.

To be fair Greggs is bang on as per usual

15 million wasted on two forwards, particularly wright

what’s his strength? What’s he good at?

please someone enlighten me
How can you say after a few weeks that it is a waste of money?

As for Wright, quick, able to turn sharply and quickly. Movement in his early games looked good but his confidence is on the floor.

His strengths are fairly clear. He is very fast; pretty strong on the ball and in the air. There is no lack of talent there but so far he has only shown those talents in short bursts. Let's hope he manages to improve so that he impacts more on games.

I think his strengths are much clearer than Simms'.

Wright is £7.7m, Simms is £3.5m for now. Who cares if that doubles if we go up with the amount of money you get for getting promoted.

Simms is good value for his age and potential at the time we bought him, Wright seemed very dear

I agree.

I thought Simms was the very top of what we would be willing to pay, and he seems to have potential and had done well at Sunderland, so the quite high fee (for us) with the add-ons seemed like an ok risk.

Wright was way above what I thought we would be paying and seemed to be putting a lot of eggs in one basket, especially for someone who had never played in England. His scoring record seemed alright, but his highlights packages on YouTube hardly had me hugely excited as I couldn't really see anything particularly special there. It just seemed like a massive gamble and thus far is not paying off at all.

Personally, I have preferred to see that amount of money spent on two or even three players a bit younger and with potential. If we were going to spend that kind of money on a single player I'd at least want it to be on someone with a proven record in England at this level.

I'm not 'hating' on Wright. He seems like a nice guy, just a bit shy maybe, and I desperately want him to succeed here for both us and him.

Yeah I agree, I watched the YouTube clips and wasn’t overly jazzed which with the YouTube clips it’s normally where they can dress a mutton up as lamb but with his I thought he looked average.
Same as you, I thought that’s a lot of eggs to put in one basket. I would have preferred us to take a gamble on someone like Miles Leaburn and spend about a Mill on him with Simms being our big ticket striker.

What’s a proven record in England though?

Proven 20 goal a season strikers in the Championship are going to be £10m+.

We could probably have had Yates for £3m but his figures are decent, not outstanding and he’s a year older than Wright.

From the sounds of it he was a top target for a while (before the playoff final) so we were probably negotiating for a while and decided to pay up rather than settle for a second choice. While yes, it hasn’t worked out so far, the way we seem to have gone about it is promising I think.

I suspect the £7.5million is the maximum we could pay eventually same with the Simms transfer fee.
It’s frustrating things haven’t come off as we hoped yet but still time I hope.

Nope it was reported as the base fee, from the very excited chap on the club site

The USA international striker has today completed a deal to join the Sky Blues from Antalyaspor on a four-year contract, following agreement of a club-record transfer fee.
