Hmmm, watching that Beavon parried shot in the first half, Vincenti definitely seems to chicken out of going for the rebound.

Jones really should have scored at least a couple too, but two good well worked goals for us.

We need to put these chances away as other teams are getting very close to scoring and draws arent going to get us promoted. Good 3 points, still not firing on all cylinders but a definite improvement. Keep going City!

It is good to see players busting a gut to get ahead of the ball and into space as we start going forward.

Watching it back, Vincenti is much better with the ball at his feet than in the air. Did some good passing last night.

Watching that just reminded me once again about cynical pull backs and deliberate chopping down of players.

Vincenti is just about to break free just outside our penalty area and their player just cynically pulls him back and has at least two or three goes at it in the process.

They really, really should make that a red card offence. Totally and completely spoils the game.

You can get red carded for genuine attempts at the ball, but that are deemed dangerous and for honest attempts at a tackle where your timing is just fractions out, but you don't get a red card for totally and utterly deliberate acts of pulling a player down or tripping him up.

Really spoils modern football for me that.

Was it Doyle who put the ball through for the first? Perfectly weighted. I don't know if the highlights of games are misleading a little, but Lee Burge has responded in the very best way to starting the season as no.2.

I agree, Otis. A blatant pull back like that should be a yellow card at least.

Jones also scored pre season with his RIGHT FOOT... damn thing, his right foot is coming along nicely... dont know why people are obsessed saying hes only got 1 foot !! How many right footed players are labelled the same?

Tottenham were on TV last night and the co commentator( I think it was Jermaine Jenas) was praising the Spurs centre half for the absolutely brilliant foul he committed on a Dortmund player that disrupted their attack. Apparently it was a foul he "had" to commit. He said this two or three times for emphasis. Shows the attitude of professional footballers to what is simply cheating.

Yep, I heard Robbie Savage on a similar incident, where he described the deliberate tripping up of a player as he broke free as 'a good foul.'

Take a yellow for the team. Holding in the penalty area got ridiculous a few seasons ago. You would have about four separate wrestling matches.

It's not cheating though is it? Same as diving. They've both got correlating punishments and in both cases the benefit currently outweighs the risk. The attitude to both would soon change if the punishment became more severe. If you'd got a 30k win bonus riding on the win, I'm pretty sure you'd take the yellow too rather than the moral high ground!

Sin bins for yellows might also stop it, rather than making it a red. I'm not sure I don't like the idea on principle but I bet it would cut out all the other bullshit too like timewasting, kicking the ball away, mouthing off at he ref/dissent etc

Simply needs to be made a red card offence.

So much money riding on football these days like you say and would guess all managers would say take the yellow to stop someone breaking away and having a goalscoring opportunity.

A yellow doesn't match the crime. It's ugly, spoils the game and is just plain cynical.

A player goes flying into a tackle and that's a red card, but could be an honest attempt for the ball. There is no honest attempt in deliberately wrestling someone to the floor.

Law needs changing as a matter of urgency.

I'm sure this used to be a red card offence and have vague memories of Trevor Peake being sent off for stopping someone on the half way line, can't remember who we were playing though

I had a memory of being outraged at Gary Gillespie being sent off against Leicester too for something similar. Just tracked it down and it wasn't the example I was hoping for. I'll link it anyway though just for the nostalgia and 2 absolutely shocking red cards!

I would say it is cheating, the same as diving or feigning injury to get a man sent off. To deliberately impede an opponent to prevent a possible break or goalscoring opportunity is surely cheating. Fair enough if an honest but mis-timed tackle is made. Beavon on Saturday was deliberately tripped as he was about to send Nazon clear and the player is yellow carded.
