The love and passion is dwindling away. It used to govern my calendar, still does a little but it’s wearing thin. 7.30am alarm tomorrow to get a bus into CV1 ….wankers !

Slowly, but surely losing my love for this sport. Its nothing compared to how is was in the 80s-90s-00s.
It's purely business now, played by mercenaries, its soulless.
Such a shame. Looking forward to the 12.30 Saturday kick off! :(

Ah the myth that everything used to be better than it is now.

Go back a little further to the ‘70’s.
Blood & Thunder. Goalies would be making 10 or 20 saves a game instead of the 2 or 3 today.
I’d love to see us take more chances to shoot around the edge of the area and look for rebounds instead of trying to set up the perfect tap in and losing the chance. Also the game then was about getting to the byline and cross but todays “target men” are lucky to head towards goal more than once or twice a game. Very little excitement in watching the chess games of today.

I dont care if we’re being occupied by Nazi Germany keep it off the football side. I can be as guilty as anyone but it always shits things up. There’s a place for it.
Bollox. The OP is about football, how it’s changed. That can only be understood in a political context. Nothing wrong in that.

Was that the imitation tracing paper?
Yes. My dad used to work in a factory up in Radford and used to nick loads of it. We had to put up with it for years. It's a wonder the whole cheylesmore sewerage system wasn't blocked permanently.

What are you eating? Who needs diet injections when you can follow the Hunt diet.

I remember izal bog roll. Greaseproof stuff identical for use in the oven with cakes.
Yeah. Inexplicably my grandad still keep buying it for the outside toilet at his house even into the 00's. Wasn't used in the upstairs toilet though. First time I saw it as a kid I was "Why is there tracing paper in the toilet? What do you mean I'm supposed to wipe my arse with it - it's like a razorblade! It's go so little absorbancy I could turn it into a raincoat!"

Hard to ignore when there is an complete commy prick running the country
I know this isn't a politics thread so I do apologise

but...

You think THIS is a commie (if you're going to use it at least spell it right) prick running the country? A man who is pretty much just copying the Tories for the last 14 years (and unsurprisingly with similar results)? Interesting to know you think Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak were all commies.

The only people more upset with him than the right are the left, because he's nowhere near left wing.

Football has changed since i was a kid. It will change again.

I honestly beleive in 20 years football fans will look back at this time as madness....."I can't believe defenders used to play around at the back like that and just had to be pressed to give easy goals away"... "wait, you mean world class shot stoppers were bombed out because they couldn't ping a pass like a central midfielder?"

What's better now, football wise ?
The stadiums, the facilities, family zones, TV coverage, the women's game, the intolerance of racist/homophobic chanting, not living in fear of being beaten up, not watching games through metal fences... that's just for starters.

11-12000 when we were in the top flight/Prem.
28-29000 now when we’re in the 2nd tier.
I'm talking purely football . What's better ?

Ah Yes, the muddy pitches have gone. We can spend the same amount of money to stand or sit, we have 5 subs. The players are all healthier in the body. Probably worse in the mind given the social media today.
But what's better footy wise ? This is peripheral bollocks. With respect 😃

Started watching City and football late 70’s. It’s certainly an odd game that we have now but I still find it as engaging as ever. This “press” and “beat the press” nonsense is just Emperors new clothes. Although why teams are so desperate to give the ball away in their own penalty area is just insanity.

In fairness to him he knows that normal bog roll in an outside loo will get damp in the colder months and swell to the size of a football. This stuff is bomb proof . You could probably felt your shed roof with it. Your grandad's tough as old boots.
