The Next Statement (1 Viewer)

Crucial in my eyes, what does everyone think-
Are they going to announce a ground share or are they still going to say they want to remain playing at the ricoh? Surely we should hear something today

I think there's more to come but I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess at what it will be.

Wasps have made one so it can only really be from SISU to be honest.

That is the thing mate, this statement is going to confirm the direction we will be taking so hopefully some clarity can be shown today. Would they be able to say they are back in negotiations or would it be private again?

Drop the complaint and get back around the table ffs.

There's still a deal to done.

Why give Wasps what they want, they said to CCFC that they would talk on the basis of there being no court action.

The complaint to the EC isn't technically court action, so maybe they should swallow the pill and get around the table themselves instead of using the Ricoh discussions as a blackmail tool.

The thing is, it doesn't seem as if it can be dropped. It looks more like it was "grassing the council up".

The other thing is, it would still go on if CCFC didn't play there anyway.

Once you make a complaint to the EC about possible State Aid infringement you cannot pull the complaint until they are satisfied that CCC & WASPS did not break the European Law. As Nick sez its now seems that SISU have grassed the council up! it could take a couple of years for them to come to a conclusion! However not many complaints about suspected State Aid get dismissed by the EC as they are shit hot on the subject.

Drop the complaint
How? There doesn't seem to be any way to do that. Once the complaint is made that's it, the EC decide if its worth pursing or not.

And if they do decide its worth pursuing surely every taxpayer should be in favour of that as it means there are concerns regarding misuse of taxpayer money.

Is it right that Wasps should be able to dictate that a public bodies use of taxpayer money should not be scrutinised?

Doesn’t look to be any way back at the Ricoh now and my honest opinion is that this will set us back years. All progress gained over the past couple of years extinguished in a matter of weeks due to the arrogance, stubbornness and naivety of all 3 parties. Fuck them all.

I think that's wishful thinking. Whilst I obviously don't agree with it due to the ramifications it causes, but SISU are more than entitled to make the complaint and it's done now, the EC will take a view if it's worth investigating or not - so it's more or less now out of SISU's hands. Plus, lets say if it was possible to withdraw the complaint and they backed down to Wasps, surely you can see that in their eyes it would set a precedent that won't be in the best interests of themselves - and in all fairness, it wouldn't be in the best interests of the club either if we allow Wasps to dictate terms with regards to a long term stadium deal. We're already at our knees because we're governed by an entity that hasn't got the club's best interests at heart. Imagine having to effectively answer to Wasps as well for the foreseeable future whilst they're still in the city. Can you honestly picture a bright future for the club when its fate is in the hands of two entities who couldn't care less about their club or its fans? I want to stay at the Ricoh as much as the next fan but if Wasps aren't interested in playing fair then good riddance.

I mean wasn’t everyone saying we had to selling the Ricoh because the taxpayer needed to be safe guarded?

Why is everyone against the EC potentially recovering money for the tax payer now?

Does anybody think the club will release a statement today or will they wait till next week once a goundshare is signed off

I'd break the NDA, tell them what Wasps were after, say they wouldn't give it up as it would forever hamper our ambitions. Say that the EC complaint can't be withdrawn and remind people that they've always wanted to remain in Coventry. I'd talk about the financial contribution to London Wasps and reveal the expiry date for ground share. Say we're here for talks if they don't come back then there are no other options, on this date we'll agree to be away from the city.

It will only piss off the other parties but I suspect we're too far gone now so throw some fire on them and try to get some fans back on side.

A lot of it depends what the real motivation for Wasps pulling out of talks was. Did Wasps know about the complaint and this is just a negotiating tactic to squeeze more money out of us as time runs out or is it more sinister from their side? That they want to force the club out of existence or the city?

What can the club or SISU do now?

We could check with the EC if the complaint really cannot be withdrawn? (even if they could would SISU want to withdraw it?)
We could try and convince Wasps that this isn't legal proceedings and was initiated before the previous legal proceedings ended, in the hope of getting Wasps back round the table?
Get bitchy and try and prove Wasps have known about this complaint the whole time so that it sways public opinion?
Walk away and confirm the groundshare?

Literally this statement has to happen sooner rather than later

Exactly, the same outcome will be reached irrespective of where we are playing football. If there's nothing to hide then just do a deal and let the investigation find that

People always believe it's about the legals forgetting about Wasps in the past playing games about it when negotiating. They entered talks, said they were going really well and stopped them based on "legals" even though they existed when they went into the talks. It's a tactic to take the focus away from them.

If anything kicking us out will encourage SISU to look for more ways to go after Wasps and the council.

Is that correct though?
Didn’t Joy Sepalla say a few weeks ago if the council okayed land (Woodlands) for a stadium to be built on she would cancel legals, yet we are told the complaint to the EC was made in February. Suggests to me a complaint can be withdrawn.

Or that a complaint isn't "legals".

The difference being the complaint aren't legals. There are no lawyers involved. Nobody is being taken to court. Sisu have grassed the council up to the EU and they are doing an investigation all on their own.

That’s what I think and I see no reason negotiations should cease, in fact I think it could strengthen the Wasp/ccc hand to carry on regardless. Any of us could have complained.
