Port vale pitch was awful. Are our players skillfully enough to notice.
After all we played Shit at Port Vale and their pitch was ok, we also were dreadful in the first half at Carlisle.
Funny how we talk about this every season we knew it would happen so why the shock.
Better then ours.Port vale pitch was awful.
The good ole days. It's one of those things I always think about when the media or some fans try to make out the modern player is far fitter and better technically. It's bollocks, players in those days put up with pitches which were for half a season like a ploughed field, and evaded tackles that would have a modern player on the floor before it even came in. Also the ball they played with was heavier too.
Do we really like to play football? I think we're quite direct this season, not necessarily long ball but we try and get the ball forward quickly. That said, it's not easy even to do that.
Looking at the state of the pitch. it's in an absolute mess for this time of year, has maintenance been curtailed in the Wasps / ACL cost cutting drive?
I think you will find it is a combination. We do often kick it long from Burge, but he does also throw it out from the back and when we get it down we don't JUST play it long. We quite often try to work it from side to side and wing to wing on the floor. We play very direct football especially since Burge has been booting it long instead of trying to build out from defense. I sometimes wonder whether our fans pay any attention.
Been plenty of teams come here and just hit long balls and Wycombe especially, who just had that one sole tactic.A hammered pitch is the best game leveller ever , throw in some gale force wind and rain and it’s anyone chance
Doyle said:“The pitch and conditions are getting tougher with every game and obviously difficult for both sides.
“The pitch was really bad this week, the worst it’s been since I have been here.
“It was dry, sticky and bobbly and not a game to try to pass the ball and we ended up playing to the conditions and maybe got the benefit of it a good few times getting in behind them.”
Good for the run in to the season end, the pitch should be OK once good weather kicks in.Both Barrett and Maguire-Drew are apparently ball playing footballers though.
We will have to see how they pan out.
They were talking about how bad it was on BBC Radio 5 earlier aswell, they said there was 30 yards of pitch in the centre with no grass on it.Even the guardian things its poor..
<snip>Mark Hughes will play the part of embattled visiting manager; the Ricoh Arena will provide the pudding of a rugby-scarred playing surface; <snip>

That is absolutely shocking by modern standards, even with 2 games a week on it. Doyle said it was the worst he'd played on there in his last post match interview.
Spot the grass.
Currently being ruined by our rugby playing landlords.
Fook flying they give a don't.Bad press for our landlords too with all the talk in the media about the state of the pitch.
Fook flying they give a don't.
Rearrange these words into a coherent sentence.
I would have thought as long as it takes a stud and provides a firm footing for the backs the length of the grass would be fairly unimportant, obviously within reason. As for the forwards the muddier the better, but I've never played rugby so would probably have to ask someone who has.genuine question, what is an optimum rugby pitch?, for some reason I would have thought it should be longer and a bit more rough than a football pitch ?
50% of them are brain-dead and the other 60% of them can't hear you because of their cauliflower ears.I would have thought as long as it takes a stud and provides a firm footing for the backs the length of the grass would be fairly unimportant, obviously within reason. I'm glad you said 'then!'Pitch looked better then
