The problem with SISU Out (2 Viewers)

Why should fans who want to watch their team play get criticised for going to Sixfields? Probably our most high profile fan Kev Monks goes there because he wants to watch his team play.

If they want to go to sixfields then fine.

However it would be nice if they could present a united front with the majority and do some sort of protest inside sixfields.

On the face of it they seem happy to go to sixfields, which is whats causing the divide and hostility between the fans.

Do you really think anybody really wants to go to Sixfields? They go because they want to watch their team play. By not going will not mean we go back any quicker

So why don't they express that?

What have they done to show sisu and the Football League that they are angry?

Ha what media, they show 20 seconds of goal action on a Saturday night and we never get a mention on midlands today. No one buys the Cov telegraph anymore and we rarely get more than the score in the national papers.

If that was directed at me, read my post again: I was talking about tolerating Sixfields but not supporting a Phoenix club post-liquidation.

Yeah, fuck it, might as well give up, eh? And you wonder why Sixfields fans sometimes attract criticism...

Fair enough, but it's a bit off topic, then!

Remind the team why their playing in a shed in front of a handful of people.

Why do you think the players would be upset about Coventry fans singing about playing in Coventry?

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was hoping to remind you and other sixfielders why they are Coventry fans. They seem to have forgotten. Sitting in silence is not a Coventry fan. I'm from rugby and I got on the CCFC band wagon after my first visit to HR in 92. It was the sky blue army that ignited my flame.

That flame seems to have gone out at sixfields.

Acutally, I do wonder because they shouldn't.

However, if it was one of the Sixfield attendees giving shit to CCFC fans simply handing out WHY/WHEN posters on Friday then they deserve an awful lot of shit. I remember the CCFC fans on the hill getting shit despite only a few who were initially calling Sixfield attendees names (and it happening back the other way). The criticism of name calling needs to be balanced, does it not?

I don't see it as hypocritical at all, to me it shows that distance isn't the issue, the issue is that's it's wrong to take a club from its home City for no good reason.

Disagree with you RT. For me the answer is to have 1,500 City fans turn up at Northampton every home game and 10,000 turn up outside the Ricoh.

That would clearly say the club belongs in Coventry. People turning up on the hill outside Sixfields for some could be simply be perceived that fans just don't want to give Sisu any money and want to see some of the game for free.

I know there are a lot of people on this site who are chomping at the bit for a 'phoenix club' but I'm not one of them. When the club's gone that's me finished.

limoncello, I really understand your position on Phoenix Clubs but I'm surprised that you don't see the facts for what they are.

You're already supporting a Phoenix Club. The CCFC that won the FA Cup and had the history rested in Coventry City (Holdings) Ltd through itself or CCFC Ltd. With CCFC Ltd going into liquidation and Holdings now being run down / struck off (if that happens) the fact is you're already supporting a Phoenix Club.

Otium has no history of being Coventry City Football Club. They were allowed to buy the branding rights and a few assets from the club with Football League approval and were given the Football League golden share. That doen't make them Coventry City. Due to money and the status of CCFC when it went into administration, Otium start up in the third tier of the Football League. How lucky are they?

To be honest I am really struggling with the current situation. I want to support the club but the club I followed for 40 years was tossed aside by SISU in favour of 'branding rights and a new startup'. I do understand fans feelings either way. But 'historic' Coventry City has gone. That's a fact.

The notion for me that once CCFC are gone that's me finished, just doesn't compute.

I am a Coventry kid and love my football team. If CCFC no longer existed and a phoenix club emerged in their place, they would automatically become my team. They would still be Coventry, just not Coventry City.

Why would you condescendingly need to remind us that we are Coventry fans? Jeez, some of you are so up your own arses.

YEs, so say that to the name callers, not to me.

My point is more that they would be Coventry City, the same as all of the other Phoenix clubs are their original clubs. The fans of those clubs don't support them because their old club went and the new club is from the same place, they support them because they are a continuation of their club. You won't find a Wimbledon, Chester, Nuneaton, Aldershot or Leamington fan who thinks otherwise. If anything pride in the clubs history and herritage becomes emphasised to illustrate the fact. We would still be the club recorded as the FA Cup Winners in 1987, much as Wimbledon hold their honour from 1989.

I think those perceiving that are missing the point, maybe deliberately to try to cause a row. I agree that a big turnout at the Ricoh at the same time as a game in Northampton would be a good way of showing the support is still in Coventry, but I think that all involved in this already know that anyway.

Fair point.

Depending on the way things transpire, then yes of course, the new phoenix club could well be still seen as Coventry City.

Obviously, you're trying to deny that names like that are bandied about on here, but they are. It's used fairly regularly.

Just thought I would ask you as you seem to be one of the most regular users of the term 'Sixfields Scab'.

5 fold? And 'ACL would likely be available at a good rate too an owner who looked like they had the best interests of the club at heart'? ACL are a business, why on earth would they lower their price just because they thought somebody had the best interests of the club at heart? That makes no sense.

Well the Arsenal Revenue likely prevents it being 5 fold, but otherwise yes, I think we could sell 5 times the tickets, 10 times the shirts and other merchandise, 20+ times the sponsorship and corporate hospitality. That's all without the fact it wouldn't take too much to get us out of this league which would massively increase revenue across the board, all we need is a bit of investment, moving back to the city and some security and for the players to believe we are going in the right direction to make staying all the more appealing.

I know full well acl are a business and I'm suggesting not they would sell for a pittance, but I'm positive both sets of their owners are pig sick of the whole situation and if it were in the interests of the city and football club (something both the council and charity care alot about) then I think the business would be for sale for a very good rate to someone who could demonstrate they had the football clubs interests at heart and not just their bottom line. Of course the majority of buyers are going to be interested in their bottom line but for the majority of owners these things arn't mutually exclusive.

You are one of the main users of it though, perhaps as much as all the others put together and you use it on threads that are still friendly and polite meaning your uses of it are just as divisive as those people you have a problem with. By all means respond to every single post calling sixfields attendees scabs by calling the poster an idiot (or whatever) but don't please don't bring it into threads where people are still discussing politely, it just rapidly sends the thread downhill and promotes the growing divide.
