I'll explain my fears, as a number of posts here have not been helpful to me.
I have not yet had a vaccine, have been told that actually I'm at increased risk of death or serious illness from Covid compared to other men of my age, Mrs Wisdom has not yet had the full vaccine.
Opening up? Fine. But, come June 21st, the government says that I am expected to go to work with zero mitigation in terms of distancing, masks etc. and there is a 100% chance that I will not have had my full vaccine by then. I am entirely dependent on my employer being a responsible employer to protect me, and retaining some mitigation on their own bat. In terms of herd immunity, then there is also a 100% chance that the vaccine will not have been offered to everybody by then, meaning others are still at a certain risk, as the vaccine is not 100%.
So, if it's all guns blazing, it's all very well letting students do what they feel like but, I come into contact with a fair few as part of my job. They may not be at particular risk, but some of the people they come into contact are. Therefore, free and easy and as if nothing has happened is not a pleasing prospect for me. It's all very well saying if you want to stay in, stay in, but come June 21st, as it stands, I am *forced* out.
So, by all means, open up, cautiously, keep an eye and a check. But mentalism is not a pleasing thought to me. The extreme drawing attention to the outliers of what goes too far upon opening up is probaby not helpful (the current regs are outside after all and, probably not of great risk - as hill says, you don't wear a mask to queue for a supermarket) but, nor is the reaction the other way that celebrates the chance to do anything you like. As a society, we need to be considerate of everybody, and not make it an I'm alright Jack position.
I'd just like us all on this board, every last one of us (including me) to think about the tone we choose before we post on this subject.
And with that, I'm off for a bit, because this and the other thread are in danger of taking a worrying turn. There's a difference between celebrating being able to have a pint with friends, and making it an antagonistic either for or against, and they're risking heading to the latter. I don't want to be around for that
