PAUL INCE is eyeing a return to management at Coventry.

The former Manchester United ace, 44, will meet Sky Blues chiefs this week for talks after Andy Thorn was sacked at the weekend.

Thorn became the first managerial casualty of the season after Coventry started their League One campaign with three draws.

Ince has been out of work since getting the axe at Notts County last April.

Wikipedia: Ince returned to management on 28 October 2010, signing a three year deal with Notts County.[28] On 3 April 2011 he left the club by mutual consent after losing a club record 9 games in a row, including a 2-0 defeat to relegation rivals Oldham Athletic the day before.

Did well in his 1st spell at MK Dons, less well during his 2nd spell and elsewhere (Blackburn, Notts County).

Says something that overall, his win ratio is over double Thorn's, 43%.

Indeed, that's the crazy world of football management, and for the vast majority once you're in, you're in and no matter how bad you do, you get linked with vacancies anyway.

It would be hard to find a manager that hasn't got double Thorn's win ratio.

Odd choice for The Sun go for, Pep Guardiola would have been more sensationalist.

He is better than a lot of names in the frame. Can't really count his spell at Blackburn in the context of the task we face.

Had one bad season at Notts County but has also had success.

A worthy candidate at least.

He's been out of work for a while, but when in a job showed some passion. If he has been away trying to learn where he has made mistakes then he could do a job as he does have positives, discipline a big one....he certainly wouldn't accept any players under performing where i feel we have suffered a lot.

Not really sold on his personality - the whole "call me the Guv'nor" thing rubbed some people up the wrong way. But if he gets the job we'll see how he does.

It also puts to rest that eternal question of "who would want to manage us?"...

Do you think sisu are actively looking for a new manager.

My gut instinct says they hope Shaw and Carsley get a good couple of results. Then job done.

The worry is they might.

All three draws could easily have been victories.

We won't know if they have changed fortunes or reaped the rewards of the work already done.

Shaw impresses me a lot more than carsley.

Would be an excellent appointment he knows the leagues well and seems to do well on shoe string budgets and has a 43% win ratio! ....

Also he has no job at the moment so must be near the top of SISUS list.

Has had minimal success without Poyet andhas an ego the size of the Ricoh , would be a dreadful appointment

How do you define minimal success - a Cup Final and a win ratio double that of The Clueless One?

I see a lot of people have latched onto the Poyet thing.

Poyet's win ratio on his own is the same as Wise on his own a healthy 45%

In fact I am now confused when did Ince and Poyet manage together or is this Wise we are talking about?

He had initial success at millwall but has lived off that ever since , Leeds fans hate him and newcastle fans wouldnt piss on him if he was on fire either.Been out of the game for too long as well but look forward to a full stat based reply with plastic spoon at the ready to gouge out ones eye

So we should only count the best parts of his record?

So a record of 43% in a low division like we are in now is good enough? Just over 4 wins out of 10? 12 points every 10 games.

Check out the maths. In Div3 you need to win in excess of 70% just to scrape into the playoffs. A lower down manager with only a 43% win rate isn't that good.
