I'm dragging up this old thread cos I am baffled as to how AT could pick Brown in preference to Malaga having seen both play tonight.
AT would have seen more of Malaga yet preferred Brown who has had 2 very poor games. Is it to try to win favour with Man U to get other potential loanees, its a sad day for us as a club if that's the case.

I would imagine it was more like he needed Brown to fill in today at right back (and he may well have been dropped for Malaga if Clarke hadn't got injured). Too early to comment on any other motives than thinking Brown was a better bet for the first League game of the season and having his hand forced tonight. If Clarke comes straight back in and Malaga goes out of the team you might have a point, but I would imagine it was pretty clear that's not particularly likely on tonight's showing (owing more to Malaga's positive performance than negatives seen from Brown).
