The worst since I started supporting CCFC in 1952 (1 Viewer)

Even when we got relegated to Div 4 (Now Div 3) it was because we finished in the bottom half of Div 3 (South) not because we finsished in the bottom 4. Having said that, I really enjoyed watching CCFC play in Div 3 (South)... we were "The Bants" (Banthams) or "The Old 5" in those days and always finished around mid - table. So I can honestly say this is the worst team in my 60 years of watching CCFC and the worst position in the League we have been in. Guess I must be an idiot ? There again, it's in my blood to watch them/support them and I suppose I always will. Even marriage isn't as painful !

Worst in my living memory for sure.

I started going up just after the arrival in Division One. Missed the Sky Blue revolution and the dark times before it too.

This is the worst though. The only thing that comes close for me is the dark times under Gary McAllister where he appeared to fall out with half the squad, the football was pretty triangles going nowhere and we seemed to heading into the abyss.

I've only supported cov for 3 years as i supported liverpool when i was really young. so i don't really know much but the first half of the season I saw under boothroyd i thought we were decent then it went downhill and the team is just really poor, but i have faith in robins and the players that they can turn it around and maybe put a smile back on fans faces if not this season then next.

I go back over 50 years and I agree entirely. Even though we had terrible moments such as the loss to Kings Lynn, there was plenty of character in the side. We have no George Curtis these days.

"We'll Fight Till The Game Is Won" -- what a joke ! Fight ? They don't know the meaning of the word. Yep, George Curtis, Mick Kearns, Lol Harvey -- all fighters. Colin Stein in latter years was a fighter !

It's the 'Tottenham or Chelsea' bit that makes me cringe. If we were put on the same pitch as either of those teams it would be double figures.

It's about time the whole song was changed! It was spot on when we were promoted with JH, which I remember well, but not anymore. It's so cringeworthy!

how did we get in this crappy position ( no replies needed) I was lucky enough to have been brought up on city winning, a long time ago.

My first memories
The promotion to the top league, now the prem, and the memory of my dad always on about another win for the city in the season before

While we're on about the sixties ,skill and desire was'nt exclusive to then.Watched the FA cup again today while minding my Grandson, both were on display in abundance .That was a TEAM with one truely household name ,three or four recognised players the rest pretty much journeymen . So enjoyable ,boy they made those Spurs superstars look so ordinary, and thats what we got from them for the majority of that season, robbed of a successive season of excellence through the ban in Europe. Is first division football so sophisticated that this present bunch ,when in possession keep the ball , move it Forward including themselves ,hell maybe even run with it , at a decent Tempo to be able to create the space to attack the opposition goal. There have been rule changes ,ball changes ,fitness progression apparently ,but the most noticable difference between then and now aside from the obvious Team ethic ,will and desire, was the directness of our approach ,not route one but the speed at which we moved the ball forward to break into the other half:(

He's the man I feel for most at the moment-I sincerely hope we start to turn around while he's still alive to see it.

Well he's 3.5 yrs Cloughie and at least two years into CCFC ,i've watched it minimum 15-20 times with him ,he knows that entire squad and many other of our old stars from the last 20-30 years, the damage is done .I pray they give him some pleasure when he's a little older and the taunts from the plastic fans @ school start .Somehow we manage to have a ball on a Saturday afternoon ,but as the naivety wears off , I hope he does'nt start kicking the cat.

Similar thread floating around on GMK with a fair few saying they are almost at breaking point in terms of them continuing to go to games and support the club.

You have to say that if the players don't care then why should the fans?

It's not just this club, it's a general malaise in modern football. Just how many good games can you say you've seen up the City in the last 2 years? Bet you wouldn't need both hands to count.

I can remember our mid-field from 60 years ago as if it was yesterday -- Iain Jamieson, Martin McDonald, Noel Simpson -- how many of you will remember today's mid-field in 60 years time ? (Not to mention Gordon Nutt - as good as Ronnie Rees, Reg Matthews - the best goalkeeper ever to play for CCFC. I could go on, but you'll get bored !

Players come and go with regularity.

How many testimonials do you get these days? Players barely last a season if they are any good. Snapped up as soon as they show promise. On the other hand though you then get stuck with the likes of David Bell for 4 years.

Correct there is no affinity anymore. Players come and go with ridiculous regularity.

I read some incredible statistic somewhere that suggested we had used more players in the last 12 seasons than in the previous 70.

I can't validate that or recall where I saw it. Can it be true - I'm not sure but there have been a couple of seasons where we have used 40 different players and then changed many of them the next season.

I see it slightly differently.

A lot of us were around when we were in the Prem. We have had to suffer going from a top flight club with decent players to getting relegated twice and still showing no improvement. At least the younger fans just starting to support our club will be able to watch us (eventually) get promoted. Something I have never known myself. I was born the year after we reached the 1st Div.

We will not be down here for ever. My youngest lad is 3 at the end of November. He will be doing an away game by the end of the season. If that don't put him off nothing will. He loves football. Been putting off taking him as it will change what I do on matchdays. At least I will always have someone to travel with though.

I agree with VOR, this is worst side I've seen in Sky Blue. I was lucky to be brought up in the Hill Goldern Era. Players with skill, passion and desire. When was the last time we had time we had the players lke Hutchinson, Wallace, Rees, Humpreys, Yorath, Stein, Hudson, Curtis, Farmer. These player had all of the above. I feel for the kids watching us today, we can't pass, can't shoot, no desire and little skill. I was only thinking whilst watching MOTD and FLS, how far we have fallen in these basic areas. We seem walk round the pitch, no pace or effort. If we are ever to get back to the Premiership its going take number of years, and a totally new side, I don't think any of the present lot are even good enough for the Championship, and I include the likes and Fleck and McGoldrick.
