Im reading post after post after post on twitter about people throwing bottles down onto the stand below at Sunderland yesterday.
Sunderland fans going on as if their victims for having bottles thrown at them by "animals" and "scummy" Coventry fans.
Also from our own fans saying how appalled they are and how much they detest a small fraction of our own fans for it.

I think the record needs to be set straight on this, and people need to stop making such a HUGE issue out of something that a) isn't something new or b) even an issue.

Sunderland fans have spent all season making some stupid pathetic rivalry that isn't even a rivalry only 2 cry like whining little bitches when they get one. They even bought in Dutch heads to fight with them yesterday (says everything you need to know when they're acting like victims, they planned for fights and cry when they get one).
In terms of throwing things, I've been sat with Geordie mates at SJP when Scumderland have thrown missiles at Newcastle fans. I've been hit with coins from Wolves fans above us at Molineux. I've seen plastic bottles thrown from our own fans above at MK away. Sunderland fans were happy throwing stones after the Ricoh game at the start of the season. I also CLEARLY seen something being thrown at Shipley when he knee slid and celebrated his goal.
Look, I'm not condoning throwing, but for Sunderland to make such an issue and act like fucking rape victims about it, and for us to give them so much sympathy. It's a bit fucking pathetic. No issue, just drop it.

Like I said, at MK away (FA Cup game) bottles of larger were thrown when we scored, I remember getting covered in somebody's orange fanta at Wembley (can't remember which game). It's I'm context.

If there threw a pint in the air during celebration (along with 200 other people) and you got a bit wet then not so much. Were bottle thrown and targeted at certain people, or just thrown up in the air randomly or during celebration? Flares would certainly of only been set off during celebrations rather than just randomly thrown at people. Now questions there surely have to be asked of Sunderland/The old bill. Why are 3000 drunk away fans being housed in a stand on an upper tier above home fans? That's piss poor management. It's not as if there's not enough empty seats in the stadium to work it out differently.

Bottles of lager shouldn't be in the stadium bowl, it's an offence. Also throwing bottles and pints into the air when a team score is a new trend, started i assume by a twat.

Pasty - throwing lager in the air in celebration (something admittedly personally I've never felt the need to do) is completely different to throwing missiles into spectators. That is just senseless and dangerous. It's indefensible. I realise it's only a minority of morons/idiots but they need to be rooted out and banned/jailed.

Got to say, it’s worse than some are making out on here. In the whole, the majority of the 2,800 fans behaved impeccably, made a load of noise and loved every second of it, however there was much more than a handful of bottles and coins thrown from near me (just to the right of the goal). We’re not talking lots of people so the whole fanbase shouldn’t take the brunt but there was couple of dozen dickheads there, and there’s absolutely no excuse for any imbecile lobbing coins and bottles at anyone from above, let alone in to the family zone. The vast majority of us should be proud, if you were involved in that, stay the fuck away next time.

Sunderland fans scraping the barrel for the most hyperbolic of reactions. Reminding me slightly of Liverpool’s “always the victim” moody attitude. I was sat row 17 which was about 5 or 6 rows from the back, and things were being thrown even from that far back.

I don’t condone it at all, just as I didn’t appreciate the same treatment at Molineux. But I’ve seen on twitter and Sunderland forums that their fans have made it sound like it was a torrential downpour of missiles - Laughable!

Just like the items a minority (key word) of their fans launched inside and out of the Ricoh earlier this season. And that of the things thrown at Jordan Shipley after goal number 4, and the drastic tantrum they threw at Conor Chaplin.

Sunderland’s manufactured rivalry with us is the root of this for me. Like racism in football, you’ll never completely block these actions from football games. Maybe don’t sell bottles. It is a shame.

Sorry. Didn’t plan on writing that much. What I will complain about is lack of stewardship, totally out of their depth yesterday.

Some years ago, Norwich completely redeveloped the Barclay End and, despite appeals from the home fans, put the away fans in the upper tier. First league game of the season at Carroe Road was against us. Sorry to say that a large amount of bottles and general detritus was lobbed over the edge. Norwich fans-were generally dismayed that it came from a normally well behaved club like Coventry and were grateful it wasn't against the likes of Millwall or Stoke. NCFC reacted swiftly and got the away fans out of that area above their own for their next home game.

Precisely. There have been too many comments on here along the lines of "I don't condone our fans throwing things BUT"... Just don't throw stuff, simple as.

I do see that having one set of fans sitting directly above / behind the other set will encourage the upper lot to lob stuff , so perhaps clubs could either ensure such seating arrangements don't happen or else put thin rope netting hung from the roof of the stand, such that it won't obscure the view but would prevent anything thrown actually connecting with a target below.

I remember at Highfield Road when the Spion Kop terrace was there (pre East Stand), they put the away fans in the eastern end of the Sky Blue stand (both tiers). They had to put a safety net along the end of the stand as it became fashionable for the away fans to chuck stuff at the City fans on the Kop, and especially leaving the ground via the alleyway between the SB Stand and the Kop.

Also at F*lbert Street, the home and away fans were on the same terrace, with a sterile pen separating them. And there was a mahoosive net there to stop coins, bottles etc.

Police/club and stewards got it all wrong for me. Away fans should not be above home fans in any ground without nets like in the Amsterdam arena or plenty of other grounds, bottles of anything should not have been sold and fans should have been cleared of missiles on entry.
I wonder why looking at the build up to this, home and away fans were let into that same pub { The Wheatsheaf } .
Things can be done properly, on my last two visits to Wembley with City I hardly saw an opposing fan until I took my seat.
