Letting a perfectly good sandwich go bad is even worse! If the police identify anyone, I hope it's that criminal.

Sunderland thought they could bully Cov and it appears on both occasions they didn't. Young men full of testosterone and beer {and these days other shit } will act like chimpanzees in the mating season, it's a fact.
If someone actually threw a glass bottle or a full bottle of liquid then shame on them, it's plain cowardly. You're not going to hit a twat, you're more likely to hit an innocent.
Police/club and stewards got it all wrong for me. Away fans should not be above home fans in any ground without nets like in the Amsterdam arena or plenty of other grounds, bottles of anything should not have been sold and fans should have been cleared of missiles on entry.
I wonder why looking at the build up to this, home and away fans were let into that same pub { The Wheatsheaf } .
Things can be done properly, on my last two visits to Wembley with City I hardly saw an opposing fan until I took my seat.
Especially as the police said the Wheatsheaf was designated for our fans

Pretty fair statement from the club

Statement from Northumbria police, Basically just blames away fans for all

Police investigate disorder at Sunderland v Coventry City game

"A spokesperson from Sunderland AFC said: "Sunderland AFC is disappointed by the disrespectful behaviour of many away fans at the home match against Coventry City yesterday."

'"There were numerous other offences committed, all of which were especially disappointing given Sunderland AFC 's willingness to speak to Coventry fans ahead of the game."

"In response, Sunderland fans demonstrated admirable restraint in the circumstances, for which the club is grateful."

That Sunderland statement seems rather one-sided. I wasn't there on Saturday but by all accounts there were Sunderland fans who weren't blameless. Why ignore them / let them off the hook whilst (rightly) focusing on wrongdoers in sky blue?

It would be nice if all the nonsense among fans from this game was left in the past now, and we start concentrating on Friday and more specifically Monday. We've only sold 1,000 tickets. I know it's a bit of a pain in the arse with time of kick off, but it would be nice if people would be as willing to back the boys for this as they were to have a piss up in the toon.

Great statement from the club.

Sunderland fans have as much to blame.

For a 12.30pm kick off on Sky I thought 1,000 so far was decent....holidays etc so that can also work against. A win on Friday will prob see a following of 1500.

That statement from Sunderland is terrible. Even if you ignore the trouble they caused down here to completely absolve their fans of blame when there’s footage of their fans kicking off in a pub designated for CCFC fans by police and their fans throwing stuff at our players isn’t on.

I was in The Wheatsheaf before the game. Great atmosphere and packed with the usual mix of Cov fans. We headed upstairs because of the numbers trying to get served and enjoyed the good natured entertainment proved by the guy on the stage etc. We went downstairs when they apparently ran out of beer and walked into the police clearing the pub of Cov fans after the earlier incident.

Approx 60/70 fans were then escorted to the ground and this consisted of pretty much the majority of the fans left in, some wandered off but it appeared the better option was to stay with the majority of fans. There was probably 30/40 lads showing intent to cause trouble and the escort was being tracked by Sunderland lads looking for an opportunity to kick off. The police held it together despite a few trying to have a go here and there...that was literally it. Not sure on what happened downstairs other than seeing that clip.

Afterwards there was a very sizeable welcoming committee for us as we left the ground and at one point we were surrounded by Sunderland lads etc. Groups of Cov standing off and hanging around. We then ran a bit of a gauntlet of avoiding potential trouble.

Cheeky little digs in the statement by both clubs which were probably not needed and will make things worse next time we play them. Needs a line drawing under it. Find and arrest object throwers. Do the usual with the Rocky balboas and then leave it.

No, it needs a fight between statement writers to settle it once and for all. If they can't, then Mascots should go at it.

If you throw anything at, near, into a group of people or even at an individual...it is almost without fail done with intent of some kind. So if is a custard pie at a circu, the intent is to thrill & scare (in full knowledge it should do no real harm) & amuse. To throw a bottle, poo, coin/brick & personally I think liquids of any sort is done with a malicious intent.

Malcious intent deserves police charges & a banning order. Not difficult is it?

As a side note. When we got back to Newcastle there was 3 Sunderland fans climbing all over the Alan shearer statue with their arses out outside st james Park.

Funny to be fair but they love a statue don’t they.

Lol at Sunderland

Not a single city fan gave a shit about them 10 years ago, and with the rise of social media, Facebook and Twitter it became plain that Sunderland hated us with a passion about a grudge from 30 years ago.

Everytime something bad happened to us they wish we went bust, wishing death on Jimmy hill and basically celebrating when he passed, then they threaten his statue and memorial guardian earlier in the season and then they cry wolf when they get a reaction

And what Sunderland fans said and done in the previous 10 years goes beyond the lines of normal 'banter' between sets of fans.

You provoke the idiots and this is what happens.

But not only was it the Sunderland fans, but Sunderland AFC itself stoking the fire on Saturday with an incredibly unprofessional tweet on Saturday when you are already aware there is animosity between supporters for the club to then encourage and support this animosity between supporters is nothing short of disgraceful and I have no doubt that the tweet from Sunderland AFC added to the crowd trouble which happened on Saturday. This individual who tweeted from the Sunderland official Twitter should be sacked immediately.
If they didn't want trouble, then why did they as a football club actively encourage and condone the animosity between the sets of fans with this inflammatory tweet?

There's no chance. It will be carnage next time we play them and it will be ramped up by them no doubt bleating about it and talking bullshit between now and whenever the game happens.

And for any lurking Mackems, we play Pompey Monday, a team who once invaded our home end via the disabled section and caused mayhem.
We didn't bleat on about it forever more.
Talking of Pompey, apparently they complained that they had bottles and coins thrown at their fans at Wembley.
The moral of the story is, all clubs have arseholws, anyone throwing a bottle is a c**t, but Mackems need to get off their high horse!

And all because they lost to Everton in 1977 and had to find someone else to blame. Sad.

Maybe the Sunderland social media team could try and avoid posts like “kick off is at 3 Coventry “ next time we play , little remarks but just unnecessary sarcasm already adding fuel to the fire
I kind of agree, but clearly banter - I saw it and thought it was funny, I had a little nibble back in good nature too. Anyone who was triggered by that is clearly a little unstable and needs to have a quiet word with themselves.

Ayresome Park late 70s and they were throwing those old plastic pub darts at us (the. ones that used to get bent and never fly properly).
Steward said that normally they had some big boards to slot into the fence to protect fans but someone had nicked them that week :)

I saw it and beat up 4 old women in rage. (just to confirm, I did whack them in the back of the head unexpectedly so there was no risk at one of them catching me back).
I saw it and took a shit in a bag and hoyed it at old lady below. That’ll show em.

There will be Sunderland fans reading all this who actually take it seriously and accuse us of revelling in scummy behaviour....

Well got to be honest, when we were ducking and weaving around proper trouble in the 80's.............I never thought that one day, people would be thrown into a frenzy by something called a tweet or plural....... tweeting ! Fucksake the world's gone mad, he said, we said, she said and someone's got it on video.
You're gonna get your tweeting heads kicked in !!
I tell you what next time, try taking their 'End' and be done with it !!
