Why are people swamping hospitals for the flu?

There are people transporting themselves to hospital with common cold symptoms, crying flu. Why?

I've been feeling cold/flu like since couple days after Millwall, n still feel crap now. Had a few days where I've struggled to catch my breath, but in general don't feel terrible. Just riding it out til maybe early next week and see how I feel.

What Fernando says I think. We were at the Doctor's, all the messaging on the TV was basically saying get up the hospital if your short of breath/having difficulty breathing.

It does look like a bad flu season incoming. Hospitalisations on the rise and 4x what they are for Covid-19 at the moment.

I understand the flu vaccine is always a bit of a best guess as no-one really knows the mutations over the coming winter months. They are usually a live vaccine but doesn't always give full immunity.

I think it is about normal


The annual vaccine is based on what was circulating in the southern hemisphere during our summer. It is always a bit of a punt and can't cope with new strains, but these appear less regularly than with coronaviruses, etc.
