Why are children over say 8 being taken to school? Aren’t they capable of getting there themselves

Would you trust an 8 year old to negotiate a main road, the way that some people drive these days?
tbf, half of them are rushing to get their children to school before going on to work ;)

Clearly not on it's knee's, Got one on here rejoicing about his half days and how short his days are.

I mean, I don’t necessarily agree with what you are saying but he was swanning about giving it loads about finishing early and how easy it was the other day. And I’ve had nothing but grief for the last 6 months on my street. So I’ll admit it got my back up a bit as well.

I’d even go as far as saying nothing but grief for the last ten years. The most stressful day of the week, the 2 week collection maggot creating set of bastards.

Fucking midge bites. Went to the park last night for the military fitness class, didn't have any deet spray. Absolutely covered in bites today, itching like fuck.

My blue top bin hasn't been collected for about 2 months, given up recycling now.

I've had wheelie bin maggots a few times with food waste and missed collections.

Bin workers are decent people. It's the management at the top that keeps making cuts and demands, and yet management's pay and bonuses never get any cuts.....

On the subject of robbing a living I know people in the NHS that earn £50k a year and do very little. If public money is going to be wasted so easily the least you can do is make sure that some of the top layer of management are earning some of their ticket to an easy lifestyle.

Surely a teacher has to be on time for lessons?

Timetabling is a fucking nightmare TBF. It’s easy enough to say “oh don’t book them in for P1” but in reality it’s another spanner into a set of works made mostly of spanners.

To nhs you can add a lot of the public sector
Time in lieu, pension schemes that don’t exist anywhere else, top of the range phones.laptops etc. And gross inefficiency
This is not the average worker’s fault but those at the very top who are scared of doing anything except arguing that more money is needed.

With the prospect of a Conservative government for decades it’s inevitable that eventually it’ll end up completely privatised, IMO.

Only place I’ve seen most of those things is private sector. Every public sector org I’ve seen is significantly more efficient for a start.

I’d give you the pensions but nothings stopping you from collectivising and negotiating benefits in your industry. The answer is to demand better yourself not try and drag everyone down because you got a shit deal.

It depends on the company.

I had one job which would count as public and they acted like money grew on trees.

Again, Doctors.

Can't book an appointment in advance so have to ring up.

Been on hold 10 minutes and I am still 12 in the queue, this is just to see if I can make an appointment. They might be all gone.

mmm! difference is shareholders versus accountability . take NHS which is only just about coming into collective buying - They are only just about sorting their procurement side out now, and there are still so many of the wasteful contracts/agreements

34 minutes later, a phone call that lasted less than a minute.

"You will get a call this afternoon at some point"

Pretty sure I could have just filled out a web form and saved half an hour.

Yep, when I worked in the "public" side. They would literally spunk money away on things that were costing 4 or 5 times as much as they should.

"ohhh budget cuts, we can't do this"
"let's spend £7 on every ream of a4 paper"

It'll be 20 minutes minus the usual journey time from home to school, minus the time spent sitting in the additional traffic if commuting during the school run.

The traffic doesn't just vanish within 10 minutes... You wouldn't get home from walking to the school and then be presented with clear roads.

Home to the school and back in is 26 minutes walking (except it's about 20 minutes there walking with a child on a quick day)
Home to work is 25 minutes

Total: 51 minutes (or 58 minutes with added child distraction pace)

Home to school in 4 minutes driving.
School to work is 23

Total: 27 minutes

Time spent pissing around on this topic, 1 hour and 34 minutes.

OK I’ll give you my example. I live a 15-20 min walk from school (possibly more with six year old speed). The drive takes 5 mins and is on the way to work.

Walking: 15 there + 15 back + 5 driving to get to the school on my way back

Driving: 5 driving to the school.

There is no time saved by traffic with a 15 min difference, traffic is bad over half an hour after I drop my daughter off anyway.

So I lose fifteen minutes of prep time and the fifteen minutes walk back when I’m already coming in later than my boss would like.

I very occassionally quote end-users within the NHS to supply spare parts on lab instruments that are out of warranty/contract.......more often than not, I then re-quote the same part & price to a procurement company who purchase it on the NHS behalf.....

...all they actually do is add about a 3 week delay, an additional layer of admin & anywhere between 50% - 100% mark-up.

This is a problem with privatisation and private companies inserting themselves into a process they’re not needed for, not public sector waste.

When a school I was at academised we got given “approved suppliers” (mates of the sponsor) we had to go through, we got in “private catering” (the same staff on new shitter contracts) both increased cost and reduced quality compared to what we had previously.

If the ideologues butted out there’s no logical reason public sector shouldn’t be able to drive costs lower than private.

Is that Supply Chain or one of the Category Tower entities ?

What are you talking about? the NHS has had numerous bodies in place to buy ' collectively' for years but the facts are that the NHS is not one homogenous organisation.

You and Nick are just lazy bastards inventing excuses for driving your kids to school

Fucking work - again.

Someone makes changes at 8:30am this morning. Customer then calls up to say everything stopped working at 8:30am this morning,

Call gets assigned to me instead of person who made the changes. Person who made the changes then claims this is completely unrelated and therefore isn't going to help as its nothing to do with them. 3 hours of pissing about trying to work out what has happened as nothing has been documented and surprisingly enough it was the change made this morning.

This happens on a regular basis.
