Am I missing the obvious, that the incentive (for all parties!) should be for both club and council to rebuild a relationship?!?
Frgetting about rights or wrongs, why on earth is there a seeming acceptance from all parties on sides of the divide that this is how it is?
Perhaps the lovely council could offer an olive branch?

Cllr Maton confirmed that he was disappointed he had not been involved in any of the discussions to date. He also made it clear that in his personal opinion there as nowhere within the Coventry boundary suitable at this present time. He confirmed that land changes status as decisions are made and Coventry does have a tight boundary.
The club will operate in Coventry for the next 4 years. He suggested that decisions are made on the use of the land and suggested that if a hotel were proposed on land close to the existing Stadium that may have a greater degree of success as the Council would see the revenue from the business rates generated.

A lot has been quoted from the Stadium Forum meeting, but this is to me the potentially most important part:
The council are fucking obsessed with hotels!
Its like life size Monopoly. You can only get planning permission if have a colour set.
As long as the colour isn't sky blue. Black and yellow seem fine.
The council are fucking obsessed with hotels!
Too right. Feels like we are in jail and have been trying to throw a double for the last five fucking years.

I'm still trying to work out why you would come to Coventry to stay in a hotel. Surely it can only be for business. Why would you come here unless you've got family here? I love the place, but let's be honest. There's not a huge amount going on.
"Let's go to Coventry for the weekend" said nobody ever.

That,s where TF went wrong we should have ground shared with Arsenal. Weekends in the smoke,But now they are doing so for rugby matches, which I don't think people should scoff at. You never know, maybe some of them will take in CCFC v Hartlepool while they're at it?

Because they are a bunch of stubborn pig-headed egotistical bastards?
But yes, they should be building bridges not trenches. Perhaps the lovely council could offer an olive branch?
I loved growing up in Coventry but I think I got lucky that my youth coincided with punk and an explosion of bands and activity. Remember going to see The Urge, Wild Boys, Clique, Squad, Vietnamese Babies - even played in a band myself and gigged around. Of course the Specials - saw them in Roots Hall for 30p. Really enjoyed the Rock Against Racism march through the centre following Squad playing on a truck.
But I get the impression it's nothing like that any more.
Back to the OP, i think the council have found a new friend and therefore we are left on our own now. This maybe beyond repair particualrly as both parties are saying there isnt any land within the boundaries. Lets face it if there is a will and all that.....
I think the redevelopment of town is going to help the city alot, the area around the station, catherdral 'Wilkos' Lane redevelopment will both be positive. The city has alot of history to be proud of but we need to sell it more. Personally i think it has more history that the likes of Brum for starters.
The groups that we have attracted to the Ricoh over the years has been great, godiva festival brings alot of people into the city etc.
I just hope our council do not sell the city down the river to Birmingham.
