Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has said striker Britt Assombalonga is attracting Premier League interest.

The 21-year-old forward scored 33 times in 58 appearances this season for the League One side.

"There are three Premier League clubs that have enquired about him."

Assombalonga began his career at Watford, becoming their 50th academy product to take the step up to the first team, and scored 15 times while on loan at Southend last season.

Posh paid a club record fee to bring him to London Road and he finished as League One's joint-top scorer.

"It would be very difficult to sell Britt and replace him with someone who can get that number of goals," Fry added.

"He's young, he's got a lovely attitude and he played 58 games for us last year which is absolutely unbelievable.

"We've spoken to Britt and his agent, who's Gareth Bale's agent, and we've said he's far better to develop here.

"We're more concerned with getting players in so they can give him more service and get even more goals."

Money talks. If the right money comes in whether in be callum Wilson or assombalonga or gareth bale money will decide the outcome. Loyalty doesn't exist in football but the money does exist. You pay for the loyalty these days.

Look at yaya toure at Man city and it's got nothing to do with a cake it's basically him saying give me a pay rise and/or a longer contract else I will up sticks to Barcelona and cash in on the signing on fee and agent gets his slice I'm sure.

Most owners/chairmen will revert to type eventually. I'll bet the wily old fox Fry is both fending off interest and trying to stoke up the price in order to hedge his bets. A big enough offer in relative terms for any player will always succeed at some point. The ex-Southampton chairman's comments were interesting. Whilst it's easy to say you wouldn't sell when you're no longer in charge, I expect he'd be salivating at the likely telephone-number offers he'd be getting for Shaw, Llalana et al if he were still at the helm. And of course, once a player's head is turned you'll eventually have to succumb (Yaya Toure or his agent must be getting some bites currently.....). The test of a good management team is what you do with it. Robbins and Jimmy Hill always seemed to sell the unsaleable and come up with better whilst keeping the club stable.
