Yeah, lets hang on to rubbish then, not try to freshen up a clearly failing manager. I'm fully behind not chopping and changing as we have done over the years, but Thorn wasn't the manager to stick with, and using that as a reason to keep him isn't good enough.

I can only go on what've read as I weren't alive when he was appointed manager, that had he not won against Forest (in the cup) and won the cup, he'd been sacked. Owners who give managers financial backing as he did, are normally expected to provide the goods - fast!

Also read St. Mirren's chairmen at the time they sacked him said "he has NO managerial ability".

Imagine if Thorn does the same!? Another scary thought.

Yeah, Fergie's first few seasons were before my time too. But he took them from 21st to 11th after taking over mid-season in '86, and the next year they were runners-up to Liverpool. That's not bad going. Fergie is used by the Linnells of this world to justify keeping a manager in place for a long time, but in reality Fergie had at least a couple of seasons' capital to call on when he did hit the ditch.
