That sort of hilights the point I made to Brighton that he has it in his locker, Leeds last season was a perfect example.Leeds away (last season) he was excellent as the lone man. He's just off form. He missed 2 good opportunities against Norwich first half which he would of buried last season. Played well at Watford and then lost his place (inexplibably) against Spurs & Swansea.
I’m sure when he first signed, MR was saying they’d train him in the work ethic they wanted? He has the physical attributes to be a dominating centre forward at this level, but not the drive or work rate.
You can coach better technical skills into a player (up to a point). It’s much harder to instil drive and motivation into a player who doesn’t already have them.Couldn't disagree more with that.
As much as I like him I don't think BTA is a particularly talented footballer. However his work rate is remarkable and very much makes up for the fact that he isn't great technically.
WBA fans didn't dislike too much. They only seemed to point out occasionally first touch could be better. Also he scored the amazing goals but missed the easier chances.
I always thought he looked WBA's biggest threat against us in recent seasons. I think we can improve him and was a great buy. I think he has been one of the few players so far this season to look more likely than the rest during our poor start.

Unfortunately we're getting mainly performances like Leeds last week

QPR away was another good one. He went toe to toe with their defence and bullied them all match.
He's certainly capable.
Modern day version of Ferguson and Wallace?I’d be intrigued to see how they got on up top together I actually think they’d supplement eachother pretty well but it’s a non starter as I don’t see us playing a two up top

We said the same, but then he carried on and got his goal.He looked cream crackered from about 70 mins though. I’d have brought Bassette on to carry on the high energy press TBH.
Good player, can't believe people moaned about us signing him.
Problem is, if you can call it a problem, we have 3 players who cost good money, who are all best playing through the middle. Someone is going to end up not playing much.
Or an interloper nicks in and steals them!Simms would stand there while he drove off with his parcels
NoCouldn't we play asante in saka's position..and play simms up top??
No, he looked far better as a central striker than out wide.Couldn't we play asante in saka's position..and play simms up top??
How I have seen it is that mostly the striker has been pressing on his own, with little support from others making it a thankless task (and hence some of Bassettes complaining). Last night was pressing as a team and reaping the rewardsIt isn’t his work rate that impressed me, it’s the intelligence of his press that sets him apart from Bassette in particular.
I think it also depends on the position and the demands on the player within any particular system.Clearly the best combination is talent and hard work but history shows that forwards that work hard but are short on talent don’t consistently score goals ….
I don’t buy at all tha hard work alone is the reason for our recent success. Vik and Hamer have an abundance of talent too. Simms and Wright scored nearly 40 goals between them …..
It’s the talent that’s the differentiator not the hard work.

Simms scored 13 league goals .. just 2 more than asante in a more attacking team
Might be a bit Adi Viveash but if the softly approach of taking him to one side and telling him isn't doing it then maybe in training make not pressing more onerous to him than pressing. Everytime he fails to do it make him do a lap or 20 press ups or something. Make the press the easier option for him until it becomes second nature. You can coach better technical skills into a player (up to a point). I think he would outscore Bassette personally.I hope BTA scores 25 this season I really do my point is that I don’t think he’s a clinical finisher and he’s 26. I’m not sure how much more we can expect his technique and composure to increase from this age on.
he scored 7 league goals the season before last.
I’m still confident that if BTA, Simms, Wright and Bassante played the same number of matches this season that BTA would score the fewest goals.

Jumping on the bandwagon for a better song (purely because it would be class to sing)
to the tune of “Bella ciao”
his names is Brandon
Thomas Asante
He came to score, came to score, came to score score score!
**Boateng said sign him
He’s fucking rapid**
So he plays for Coventry!
la la la la la …. Etc etc
** not my finest work, it fits, but someone may do better!
We've adopted the socialist approach to everything else, following Peps model and all the other follower's, it's time to get get back to indivi!I'm all for adopting a socialist anthem!
Maybe sing in Italian for a bit of authenticity.
I just don't see how BTA could score less than Simms if they were both given the same opportunities. Bassette looks a menace and still has room for Growth. Wright looks silky and knows how to take a chance, BTA is strong and has an engine, Simms erm pokes some in occasionally.I’m still confident that if BTA, Simms, Wright and Bassante played the same number of matches this season that BTA would score the fewest goals.
It’s not all about goals. His all round game on Tuesday was very good. Wright doesn’t score the second without him pressuring the defender.I hope BTA scores 25 this season I really do my point is that I don’t think he’s a clinical finisher and he’s 26.
