Thorn and Subs (1 Viewer)

Just think Thorn missed a trick last night?

Christie was clearly knackered and struggling last 15. The clear option was to bring on Cameron or McPake for Christie - I know Keogh was playing superbly but he could have shuffled across to right back and one of the above could have seen out last few mins at centre half. If not wishing to change centre halfs would still have bought on one of the above at right back think it would have been much better?

Freedman relatively inexperienced manager but used all three subs,....think Thorn should have at least used one if not both of subs above. I know squad is not strong but sometime Thorn needs to think a bit more cleverly with the limited experience he does have on the bench? Thoughts?

Think although gutted a home game against Watford is a game we can get three points from, let's all get behind the boys and try to lift their spirits

CCFC have utilised subs very poorly in recent years.

How many times at 0-0 or 1-0 down have we seen no sub until 80/85- when it's too late.

Last night I don't care what subs were brought on, but it was clear changes were needed, fresh legs may have prevented the goals.

It has annoyed me with the last few managers who for some reason don't want to make changes.

You didn't need to be a qualified coach to realise that we should have brought a defender on at 1-0 as we were under a hell of a lot of pressure. It would have wasted a little bit of time too.

It is pointless bringing people on after 80 minutes as they never get chance to have an effect on the game.

Ive had a similar conversation with someone I know about something similar. He thinks Thorn was naive last night, not goin more defensive to try and hold the lead.

I agree that its been a fair few years since we've had someone in charge who knows when to make a change and make one thays good for the team. Id like to think Harrison has that know how. But its too late to go on about the past. Hopefully its a learning curve for the current staff in charge!

Imo, he should have brought McPake or Cameron on in the 80th min (there or there abouts) for one the strikers. But hey, what do I know, im just a supporter :)

Was kind of thinking the same, if weve lost last 2 games and are 1-0 up with that much pressure would he have not taken off a striker and put on a defnder to soak it up and try win the game after whats happend to us last 2 games.

Excellent post, FASTEST POSTMAN WILLO - he could also have taken the ineffective O'Donovan off and played 5 at the back: Christie - Keogh - McPake - Cranie - Hussey with Christie and Hussey wide wing backs, with a deep midfield four and Jutkiewicz the lone striker.

However I must admit feeling a little bit guilty criticizing the honest and honourable Andy Thorne, when really I feel I'm just a Football Manager keyboard warrior manager!

Well that's the thing, we've had a succession of managers who have done the same thing. Just don't get it. What happened to the 16 or 18 man squad? What happened to trying to change the course of the game and bring in reinforcements to get a goal or hang on to a lead?

Is it a lack of bravery? Subs can change games as has been proved. No doubt that players tire to as the game wears on. A sub is a fresh pair of legs. With all those kids in the team on Tuesday you would have thought bringing in a more experience head in would have been just the ticket with the game drawing to an end.

I can only surmise that McPake isn't fully fit and AT only put him on the bench because he had no-one else to select.

I suppose AT had his reasons, and it is easy to criticize based on the result. He may have felt that it was better to stick with the team as it was rather than risking disrupting the team in the final few minutes. Maybe AT didn't realise there would be 6 mins of injury time? Had he known I suspect he would of made a change. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I guess had City won we would not be having this debate.
