On a separate issue, I thought it was quite telling that we played far better in the 2nd half at Cardiff under the original diamond formation.

When Sheffers plays rubbish i.e the first 20 or so games of the season the diamond fails as all our attacks just break down with him.
The CAM is pivotal to the diamond formation imo and Sheffers is too inconsistent for the formation to be based around.

Re Blackpool: Yep, exactly, CCFC.

What I dont get on here with all this is that we now seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet, all think Thorn is doing much better and everyone is happy with the way things are now going. Don't know why we keep going backwards on here? I think the time to reflect if we go down will be at the end of the season.

Everyone is now happy with the way things are going but one or two have now got selective memories in terms of the times eariler in the season when Thorn was getting things seriously wrong at times. Thorn is doing well now, he wasn't doing at all well earlier.

Can we not all just focus on the here and now for the time being at least?

Explain how it is that Shefers was crap on Saturday apart from his goal but the diamon still worked.

Whatever people think of Andy Thorn he has certainly learnt quickly.

His football ethos is pleasing on the eye and he is great at spotting talent to get in on the cheap.

He has also done very well with the youngsters and the squad have tried their hearts out for him.

For those reasons - should we stay up, he should stay. New owners or not.

Pretty much agree with you there Otis-the key thing now is that the team has got some positive momentum behind it for the first time since that small double against Brizzle and Brighton. We know how to grind out results against tough opposition and, at last, are showing some resilience on the road-now let's see where it takes us.

so, if we stay up and Thorn has to be given a new contract....

does it not work that SISU should also be commended for keeping us in this league by employing the right manager and also cost cutting to make us more sustainable going forwards ?

Thus keeping us in the same place we have been for the past decade, but not compromising our future ?

oh, and wont this all change if we lose to Bristol City ?

We just cant lose that game !!

1) I don't think Sheffers was crap apart from the goal
2) What do you mean specifically by the diamond worked? It worked in terms of we won but it wasn't the greatest of performances, it was just ok.

Except SISU didn't hire him for his managerial nous, they hired him because it was cheap and easy to do so. If he happens to turn out half decent, it's a bonus.

I hope we keep on form, what happens if we dont though? What happens if we lose in the last minute? Would thorn be at fault? He is getting all the praise now!

Im happy to praise him now, he has been dog shite up until the last couple of games though!

I still think it is unfair to call him "dog shite up until the last couple of games though!"

From boxing day as a whole I have been pleased with our form. It was the games before that until Christmas which were dreadful.

I personally think the lot who berate and blame him for every ill that afflicts the squad are out of order ,the only critisism that can truelly be layed his way are substitutions and he missed one agian on saturday ,Mcsheffery was extremely lucky to stay on the pitch near the end giving away numerous fouls ,he should have got cody on and broken up the last four minutes .Regards late goals, Fitness, tactics ,from the start of the season the first four or five games you could argue we were a little unlucky ,then not subbing at palace ,murphy there ,Ipswich ,Cranie ,sending off Lesta,Burnley, myriad goals down to individual errors Cranie four to five ,add Christie ,Hussey Wood all around five,Murphy 5-6 overall,Even Keogh this half of season a couple ,Cameron Pen palace ,still dispute that one.HAv'nt joined the circular debate on this one as it is just that and ain't gonna waste half my leisure time on it but i've been pleased to see us attempt to play football for the majority of this season ,sometimes too toothless ,i would imagine he was heavily reliant on Harrison @ the start of the season re; the diamond and we've now had some new personell and modified our game .Having been dealt the shittest hand of the last five managers he's currently performing around 8-10 points off what most those seasoned managers could achieve ,to me that ain't too bad as he's learning his trade,i've been backing him all season and last and will till he ain;t here no more, these are my views ,some will concur some will oppose, thats ok i respect all oppinion .this subject has ruined this forum for me and hav'nt been inclined to post any where near as much,i' leaving this one there .

Haha a good and fair post though.

Thorn has been dealt the shittest hand of any of our managers since relegation; and as a novice too. That should not be forgotten when making a fair assessment of the man. For that reason, if he keeps us up, it's more than just a job well done. The odds against us at the beginning of the season tell you all you need to know.

Absolutely.

The trouble is when "fair assessment" is confused with "whitewash". As far as certain factions are concerned, AT is responsible for nothing other than the good times.

Absolutely. If we lose the next 7 games it's the fault of other factors, previous home form is purely down to the manager battling against adversity.

Ultimately if we survive he deserves a one year contract to try again. If we are down he deserves to go.

This is an amusing post and an uncomfortable one for many. For some reason the real vehement Thorn supporters (i.e those who become vitriolic and abusive if any criticism is thrown his way) are also the most fervent SISU out campaigners. The irony is if Thorn keeps us up then SISU must surely be praised for astute business prowess. After all they almost certainly have the lowest paid manager in the league (who many think is the best manager we have had in the division) and will have achieved no worse in league position than in Season One when they did invest in the playing staff.

If Thorn keeps us up he deserves a medal not just a contract extension. There were no (and nor should there have been any) expectations of him keeping this squad in the league pre-season.

And in trying to suggest that SISU deserve any praise for their effort I know you're on the wind up!

Not as much a wind up as saying he needs a medal. He's a manager not a war hero. Don't be ridiculous.

Interesting that you ask the question. Can I infer, then, that you'd agree it would be bad form to argue in such a way?

Why idiotic? He made a lot of mistakes that cost us points! We win a game then fair play, we lose because of mistakes we have to be fair!

If i slate him for mistakes i am more than happy to praise him for doing well!

If we go on a losing streak you would blame sisu for no investment no doubt..

I think you should show Thorn some more gratitude Duffy. It's this recent good form that's got SISU's cellar guards out on Thorn patrol-I'd escape now while they're attention's elsewhere.

Calling him "dogshit up until the last 2 games" is pathetic. Have our best 2 performances of the season been our last 2 games then? I didn't think we were all that great against Pompey.
It makes it look like you're not capable of weighing up more than 2 games in a row and then giving an assessment.

Ginetta's comments about the bookies are going ignored by the Thorn haters I see.

When we were 8 points adrift the very same people were saying "the bookies are never wrong" in order to tell everyone we're doomed under Thorn.

Now that it's being used to show why he's doing a good job nobody wants to know.

It's a question that you can't answer though isn't it? And that's because nobody here thinks Thorn's faultless because we all accept he's a novice. This also means we know where the blame should lie.

It is showing he has done a good job lately which shows how bad a job he was doing before, surely?

You were blaning sisu for no investment but its the same 11 but on good form with good decisions being made from at?

Of course i can see past 2 games, go too far and i see lestar snd forest though!

Do you honestly think until recently it has been acceptable? Blackpool, forest away, ipswich home, palace?

Well this is it in a nutshell.

As has been alluded to .....

We do badly; it's Sisu's fault, the players are inexperienced, squad's too small, playing too many kids, not Thorn's fault.

We do well; All praise be to Thorn.

It simply cannot be that when we lose that none of it is Thorn's fault but when we win it's all down to Thorn. He made lots of mistakes eariler in the season and we lost points and games because of it.
He is now minimising those mistakes and we are doing all the better.

Unfortunately bottom line is that he contributed to and is partially responsible for our so lowly position in the first place, but now fortunately for us he is turning things round and is now doing something positive in terms of getting us out of the situation.

Total lack of balance by many on here.
