'I Want Us To Be Up There With Blackpool'

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that he wants City up with Blackpool challenging next season.

Speaking to the CT, Thorn who signed a new contract along with Steve Harrison last Friday, said

"We want to pit our wits against all the best teams and we’re really looking forward to going to West Ham and what a derby the Birmingham game is going to be.
“I really enjoy games like that – it’s what you are in the game for and as a player I used to look forward to all the games and the bigger the better for me".

“It’s going to be great. We will aim to carry on where we left off and just kick on.
Speaking about the clubs who were relegated last Sunday with West Ham, Thorn said: “I was disappointed for Blackpool but I would have been disappointed for Wolves if they had come down, or Steve Kean at Blackburn.

“But at the end of the day if you finished 18th in the Championship like we did you are there because you deserve to finish 18th and it is up to yourselves to do something about it.

“I am sure Ian Holloway won’t want to hear people saying they were unlucky and all that. "He’ll want to bounce straight back and I want us up there as well.
“Over the course of a season you are where you are because you are what you are. They played a 4-3-3 system that suited them to get up and it just shows what can be done if you play a system that suits your players.”

Disorganised1, I'm sure that was a dig at AB and CC. Maybe Thorny was frustrated by the playing style of the last two managers.

For as long as I can remember, we have not seen the best of our players because of the way we have played. How many players have we watched, struggling in our side, only to be sold, then deliver the goods elsewhere?

It must have been very frustrating for Andy Thorn, having recruited players with skill & ability, only to see them 'bypassed' on the pitch. At long last he can demonstrate why they were bought. Players like Clingan, Cranie and Juke. There are also some great youngsters to come through, if given the chance to develop properly.....

He also seems to have the right attitude towards things, like the big games......previous managers have almost 'feared' going to places like Brum & West Ham. What a great opening match that would be......Blues away !

i would agree with burbage, it has only really been CC and AB who played negative football but generally the good players were all sold from underneath the manager.

How often have we moaned about players being played out of position ? Back to the Strachan era I think.
