Still not the same though is it- you’re comparing a group of players who even with Southgate’s approach got to two finals & who arguably are up there with the most talented groups in world football.
I’m spotting similarities, not saying they’re identical. People tend to let bad performances slide as long as the results hold.

Equivocating over one moment in a game as more important than the collective performance is just an extension of that. QPR deserved to be at least level by half time. The result is probably fair. And that shows how bad both teams are.

We don’t make that one howler and we win.

I genuinely don’t understand what people were looking for tonight, a great performance was highly unlikely to happen.

an error strewn nervy match was always the likeliest outcome and that’s exactly what happened.

Nothing has changed for me, apart from it’s a point which might help a bit with the confidence, and onto the next one, where I hope to god the atmosphere doesn’t turn toxic if we’re nervy and low on confidence again.
You could argue without their howler they win. Both the keeper and defender should’ve blocked Hadji’s shot

Adi was fired but should have been replaced.

I'm not against the new coaching system, but you don't just rip up what's brought you success, you introduce new methods gradually.

We've made major changes all in one go and it's showing.
I can't think of another team with a structure
and a lop sided squad like ours.
Think it was FP said Sunderland were similar last year and were awful, have now added a bit of experience and are flying.
Let’s hope we somehow survive this season and get the chance to correct the problem in the same way. I just don’t think this team has it in them.

Maybe lie and tell them every game’s a cup final against Man Utd.

I only saw the second half. I didn't think we were that bad. Certainly should have won. Just some bad decision making and I didn't see the performance as shit, just saw a team low on confidence, which is natural.

Simms fluffed his lines twice, which was really annoying.

We should have won.

I would fancy our chances against Luton on Saturday, but losing Eccles could be a big blow. Any news on how he is?
Could be a blessing in disguise. Torp was the only midfielder who was looking quickly to get us moving forward.

Are people still convinced we’re a game or two away from one of robins classic winning runs up the table?

Because I think we just played a genuine relegation candidate and looked 2nd best for most of it.

I think people are entitled to live in hope but at the same time I totally respect those that are exercising serious concern as well. We look absolutely awful and so many players look like they're off it. It's scary. Not even like some are cheap bargains not quite coming off. We have players worth millions seemingly looking like they don't belong anywhere near this standard.

Many of these players were part of a team that finished 9th last season. That tells me they can’t suddenly have become not good enough for the level.

It’s a mentality thing, and what started with a few wastes of space has now seeped into players who are proven Championship quality.

Tonight looked like two mid table League One teams misplacing passes & unable to keep possession for more than 10 seconds. Absolute pants and not the best advert for Championship football - talk of promotion at the beginning of the season - you’re having a laugh!

If this what's driving thing's I'd give some debut's on Saturday and recall the loans for this fixture play them and test it personally and if he gets the boot at least he'd get compensated?

its looking like we haven’t got the players capable of doing it this time, sheafs not got the quality around him, he’s getting found out , Eccles has never been good enough for me, the defence speaks for itself and we change formation far too much, top sides pick their best 11 and formation and stick with it, no wonder our forwards have got no confidence, they’re not in the team long enough, and I’m not sure even robins can turn this lot around and he’s looking like he knows he can’t, never seen him so pissed off, players not capable of doing the basics

It is and we have to wonder why? Especially as we supposedly now have the personnel in the backroom staff who are supposed to deal with the psychological aspects.

The obvious thing is that AV, who is likely to be critical and work them hard, has gone.

It does make me wonder if this new setup is working from the modern perspective of pandering when people complain about bring criticised etc. and the players have become soft and taking the piss a bit.

As well as AV going (allegedly due to players not liking his methods and with the Performance Director playing a significant role), we've had MR making allusions that he can't discuss injuries due to GDPR and actually saying that players can't take criticism and are baffled when fans aren't happy that a team heavily touted for promotion is in and around the relegation zone.

While that kind of approach has its merits in society to an extent, in a top level professional sport it leaves you with a weak team of losers.

If he plays like that consistently, he will be back in the team as a starter in no time. He impressed me with the amount of tackles he got stuck into and as you rightly point out, moved the ball forward quickly.

It’s nothing against Eccles or Sheaf, they’re just a bit too similar. They keep the ball ticking over and are progressive deep lying playmakers but it’s fair to say both players are relatively conservative on the ball.

We came out all guns blazing. Luckily scored. Shit the bed sat back and fucked about and they dominated everything from the 4th minute.

Couple of counter attack breaks full of panic doesn’t count for me.
Sorry but that’s Bollocks in my opinion - they had about half hour after we scored where they were in the ascendancy

Second half that game should have been won and it would have been if not for a calamitous goalkeeping error

Serves me right for saying it and I probably jinxed it but just before they scored I actually commented to my dad via text that since the second half had started we’ve actually got a grip of this and look quite comfortable

Then after their goal I still thought we looked like the ones most likely to score next

It was an awful watch. If I were a neutral I’d have put another game on as the quality was so poor.
We have spunked so much money to be in the bottom three. It’s not good enough. Robins looks out of ideas

I appreciate Doug King’s position here, he’s damned if he does pull the trigger as fans may turn against the decision but if he don’t then there is a risk we get remain in a relegation battle and potentially get dragged down to L1.

For me at this point DK has to look at the facts, look at the end of last season and this one, results have been nowhere near good enough. This isn’t on the basis of last night it’s an accumulation of results and performances.

Thanks for everything Mark, but change is required, because currently there doesn’t seem to be any suggestion this changes.

Which howler are you on about?

Dovin going the wrong way for their goal, or Simms not even looking to square the ball to Bassette for a tap in?

Or Binks being woefully caught up the pitch for their goal?

Fact is we are making howlers in every game. with the exception of Leeds away, we've been in a position to get a result in most games, and would of done, but for the odd howler!

I’m baffled by how poor we are at the moment.

I have supported the Sky Blues for over sixty years and MR is arguably the best manager we have had in all that time. I refuse to believe that he has become a bad manager almost overnight.

We have lost O’Hare and Palmer but overall I would say the squad has been strengthened a bit over the summer. We certainly have more depth than we have had in a very long time.

I am coming round to the view that the changes in the back room staff (the loss of Lawrence and AV, the new coaches and recruitment team and the appointment of a performance director) are behind our dip. MR just doesn’t seem to be in control in the way he once was, which must surely be down to DK.

I fear that MR’s days are numbered but to those who want him gone I say be careful what you wish for. I don’t think appointing a novice manager or a more experienced one who has been sacked by another club will be the answer, even if we get a short “new manager bounce”.

Slept on it, still fuming. We're where we deserve to be. Us, Pompey and QPR all look absolutely hopeless and we've spent £45 million for the privilege.
Get a new manager in ASAP before we find a gap forming.

I'm very critical of MR for a lot of reasons and said that he doesn't come across as knowing what needs fixing to get us out of this.

However - I'm really not convinced that anything changes under a new manager. There is something fundamentally wrong with this group of players that I think the slate needs to be wiped clean with them and rebuild the whole thing. Fully aware that's not realistic though, either MR or a new manager needs to make it work with the bulk of this squad.

There's two circumstances under which I agree MR needs to go:

1. It looks like we are actually at risk of going down and need to roll the dice with a new manager. For me this can be anywhere between the next int break and Christmas.

2. This second one depends on MRs level of involvement with transfer policy, but if it's deemed he is the one responsible for recruitment failures and we need to rebuild from scratch then he should go. If the blame lies with DK (which a lot seems to) then DK needs to back his manager with what he needs.

One thing that is grating with me is DKs silence - he needs to come out and show a bit of support. Even if he is considering a change just a bit of moral support for MR and the team (especially given the circs) is the least he can do.

Sometimes when things at home or work get a little too much and it feels like I'm struggling a little, I come on here and realise at least I'm not a grown man losing his shit over a football match.
