People would benefit from parking a bit further away and walking. They might get a bit fitter and once out of the immediate area you can slip away unhindered.

I do but Longford road was a shitshow. Road should never have been closed/roadworks on same day. Both totally unnecessary. Two ambulances and police stuck. Great work all round

Just getting to tile hill now from car park c

I gave up on C and park in windings hill lane official car park - 10 minute walk and away and back home 15 mins later

The walk away across the A444 felt a lot quicker and safer as a pedestrian with the temporary road closure like it does at other grounds around the country but it seems to have caused problems elsewhere.

Drove back via Winding House Lane after the game and seemed to me that the traffic there had cleared faster than usual.

May be the answer is another foot bridge. Closing the road inconveniences non football traffic as well.

Agreed but not sure who'd pay for it. We need two new bridges. One over the triple 4 and another over the railway.

Can't see either happening.

It’s predominantly the location and I don’t see how public transport could realistically be improved to persuade people not to drive there. The Stadium is located exactly where a park and ride would be located and next to a big retail park that people will always drive to - a weeks grocery shopping is tricky on a bus. You would need 600 buses all at the same time to take yesterday’s attendance away ( the railway ”station” is always going to be a waste of space).
There used to be a park and ride a few minutes from where I now live on the south side of the city. Was always busy but doesn't exist anymore. Also used to be buses run from all over the city direct to the ground

My options now are a 15 minute drive or an hour on 2 different busses

Other clubs manage it so not sure why its viewed as impossible from either a practical or financial point of view for us

Exactly. There's never any planning. There's been many a time they whack road works up just before we have a big game.

Think of how many more trolls the extra bridges would bring out of the woodwork. This place is already bursting at the seams.

For starters, the traffic chaos mentioned above can be a very good way to push people onto public transport if you give buses priority to leave when roads are otherwise closed…

Shambolic. Seemed great to be able to walk up Hen Lane fairly unhindered but getting out of Finbarrs was ridiculous….. 45 mins to get to Earlsdon, joke
Yeah, we park in Finbarrs. Hope they don't make it a regular thing.

We could start with maybe….a bus?

There are other suggestions listed above….to say the ground is going to be forever inaccessible by public transport is just a failure of imagination.

I had put on another post, you would need 600 buses to take yesterday’s attendance away from the stadium. All at the same time.

Proper train service plus shuttles from PnRs and the city centre is all it needs really.

No worries though cos:

Will there ever be a rail service that could cope with the arena’s capacity? Where would a park and ride be situated to the north of the city? Car Park C would be a perfect location for one - for the city centre.
Pedestrians just need to follow the rules.

Thinking about it, I doubt there will be a VLR of adequate capacity, or indeed any capacity, running to the arena in my lifetime.

As for your other points they all apply triple for private cars. Even if we say football traffic doubles normal passenger rates in cars, you’re talking 30 cars to a bus. If there’s no room for a bus, there’s definitely no room for cars.

PnRs should be all over the city, obviously it’s more relevant for the South as it’s further away. Most in the North can probably already use public transport b

I can’t use public transport coming down from Newark and there are quite a number of people who seem to travel further than my 60 miles each way.

I'm no expert on their set up there but the buses that they run at Reading FC appear to come from the local bus company for example.

They seem to run a minimum of 12 shuttle buses.

Whilst that doesn't seem to be able take the full crowd capacity by bus, they do seem to be able to keep their local train station Reading Green Park open throughout match days even though the trains three appear to be only three carriages long and not all that frequent. It would all be additional capacity on what we currently have.

I didn't go to the Commonwealth Games Judo or Rugby at the CBS Arena but I believe they ran shuttle buses to the CBS Arena with the cost included in the ticket price.

I'd expect the buses help alleviate demand on other methods of transport reducing pressure on the roads and potentially provide a better experience for everyone regardless of whether they want to drive in, get a bus or train in and / or want to walk to the ground and cross the A444.

Reading have an average attendance of 12,000 with a high of 16,000 and a low of 1,809. Hardly comparable.

I certainly wouldn’t want the price of shuttle buses included in my ticket price.

There are options situated somewhere between “do nothing” and “sequest the entire country’s bus networks”.

I'm confused now, are 30k all catching the train, or the bus?...

The point is, that currently there's pretty much no alternative to driving. And parking as close as you can. Now some people will always have to drive (eg from Newark), but if there was a better connecting train service/train + bus (as Reading have successfully done for years)/P&R service, then it would reduce the numbers from having to drive and park close, benefitting car park a, b and c'ers and pedestrians alike.

Indeed, surely with an average gate of 25k + now, the critical mass exists for public transport that didn't previously.

But having SOME buses is better than none. It's not 'if the buses can't take the entire crowd then we shouldn't bother'.

Even a dozen buses doing shuttle runs for an hour or so after the match could get a few thousand away. And even that would make a huge difference.

Why are you talking like having better transport options means every single supporter has to arrive at the ground via public transport?

Surely its better for those that have no option other than to drive if there's less cards on the road because people have had the option of arriving by public transport?

You do not need 600 buses, you are being deliberately ridiculous. You could have buses behind the south stand going to the city centre. You could have more buses behind Tesco going to various locations. And designated buses parked along the road opposite the casino also going to various destinations.
Somewhere between 12 and 20 double deckers would massively help elevate the problem.
As soon as they were full the police could get them on the road and away.
Many people would still drive as they do now.
Works at many other clubs,why not ours ?

which is what we do, but try heading over to longford road, the wasteland has no footpath and is flooded, so it is the poorly lit canal toepath - and no because of the road closures, took an extra 30 minutes this week

Exactly. It was gridlock because both roads were pretty much closed.

Would surely think there should be a thing where it theres a huge event on you don't cause pointless bottlenecks at the same time.
