If Robins knew the defensive players weren't good enough, why did he re-sign Binks?
Maybe he thought there was enough there to work on and with the coaching set-up changes he could improve significantly.

Hasn't work out like that so far, though.

Kitching had a few chances this season and messed up so was dropped. His clangers tend to be bad ones.
But Binks is poor so whatever give him another go. Hardly an embarrassment of riches.
Getting fullbacks to stop balls being pulled back into the box would be helpful to the centre backs, very hard to defend ...
Which clangers has he made? He's started 8 games, kept 3 cleansheets and won 4, drew 2 and lost 2 when he's started. Couldn't do a lot with the 3 goals Leeds scored, yeah a poor head for Sheffield Wednesdays first, couldn't do anything about the Luton goals, and couldn't do anything with Sunderland goals.

He hasn't personally done any of those things buddy.
He too often loses concentration and produces a very poor loose pass to the opposition in a dangerous situation. Too often an accident waiting to happen and a bit of a loose canon.
He's not the only one though.
I'd give him another go instead of Binks.

Conor coady on loan?
Been trying to think of a defender we could bring in with experience and he would be fit the bill. Hasn’t played a lot last couple of years but he’s a leader. Not long ago he was in the England squad.

Worked with Frank before…

I don't think we need an overhaul. Players performances lift with 2 or 3 quality players. Hamer and Gyokeres carried us for most of the play-off season. And look at the change in Arsenal since Odegard returned.

You would expect us to have 20mill+ to spend again in the summer. MVE, Wright, Sheaf will all leave at the minimum imo and you then have the likes of Eccles, Simms and Bassette that others may take a punt on. Gyokeres sell on too. Just hope we've learnt our lesson and stop signing players from no mark leagues.
Primark leagues

The only players that I see surplus are JDS, Lati, Jamie Allen and one GK (probably Wilson due to age and contract expiration date) The rest have squad potential but not necessarily first team material

That's what happens when big money (by our standards) gets paid for some. They potentially turn into overnight prima donas

😔

I worry you’re right and that’s just football at this level. Not for me I’m afraid. Don’t mind when they get to Bassette level arrogance, but when they’re at the level of “we’re too good to try” winds me right up.

It’s Doug’s man now. If he fucks up it’s Doug’s fuck up. More skin in the game.
Definitely need to back the new man but I wonder how they approach the remainder of the season, as the initial target of playoffs/promotion is written off? Is it worth spending millions on temporary fixes in January or working towards the following season?

I wouldn’t spend a penny in Jan unless we’re flying TBH. I never think it’s a good market to shop in. Maybe the odd free agent if they’re about.

We're 10 points off with 29 games to play, target is still play offs at a minimum.

Work towards next season but hope for a late charge to the play offs

Binks is the only defender that can actually pass a ball.
Asante should improve with decent coaches. He was top scorer at WBA last season.
Agree with the rest.

Fk me some of you lot hate on so many of our players. One or two need an upgrade, but most are ok. Some are being slagged and have been here two minutes, give them a chance ffs.

I'd move on Collins but with no takers I suspect it will be Wilson who goes. Dovin will be No1.

Defensively we need an extra centre half, would move only one on but not sure which. Can't believe some of the stick Thomas is getting and think he'll play at the top level. MVE is decent. Bidwell more than good enough, but would look to upgrade at some point and move JDS on.

Midfield we need some help. Sheaf is our best but can't stay fit. We need one more regardless. I'd move on Allen. We could add a creative 10 but depends on the system deployed, Rudi and Torp both decent for that. Out wide we have Tats, Ephron, Wright and Raphael (eventually) all good there. Up top Simms, BTA & Bassette is fine. Move on Tavares.

In short, the only ones I'd exit: keeper, JDS, 1xCB, Allen, Tavares. Bring in FB cover, 1xCB, 1xCM, 1xAM

Certainly doesnt need an overhaul in the squad. A few tweaks, hopefully add some steel and experience, then improve what we have.

Heard it mentioned on the cov podcast as a suggestion but would we take Ryan Giles atm from Hull.

Young player who definitely fits in the Lampard model for his full backs, can put in a great cross (Lampard Chelsea had the highest number of crosses). Will say I don’t know how much he would cost tho and if he starts to get game time probably wouldn’t happen?

Third time lucky? Think Giles and CCFC has been and gone. Do not think he would want to come back and do not think we would particularly want him as we already have a diminutive lwb who is not a great defender on the books......admittedly Giles is a better attacking choice than JDS

Yeah I get the defensive concerns but wonder if the attacking is worth it considering at Boro he had the highest assists playing left back.

I suppose if that is a trade off, currently we have a diminutive LWB that does not offer defensive stability and does not offer attack threat either. Would have liked Burroughs before he went Sheff U or someone like pickering

Would of loved Burroughs, think another target could be Harvey Vale from Chelsea.

Definitely a position we need to strengthen tbh

Is Vale any good? Almost went to the Saudi league and has been told to find a new club with no luck, didn’t do well at Hull a couple of years ago but did OK in L1 last season. Not seen him play, but wiki says he’s more of an attacking player too.

Might be more of a good prospect but did decently ok at Bristol, good age for us to develop. Much more of an attacking player with some good pace.

Got some more physicality to him than Jay. If I was in charge a loan to buy could be a good option to see how he would adapt to life in the championship considering Bidwell is out of contract

Oh also out of contract so maybe we could loan him with an agreement if it goes well to sign him

Surely there are better options, if you're brining him in on loan with the view to develop, he's likely going to be second choice behind JDS. We need someone to come in and improve us as first choice.
