Yes think the gamble in Walker and Waghorn is affecting us now in terms of wheeling and dealing both were our top earners when signed but Vik’s performances nobody saw coming and helped
If we can get these two out on loan it will make a huge difference

Would Waghorn have signed just for one year or was he insistent on two?

Reading SBB comments has left me a little deflated really. It sounds like Hamer will be going (which I expected as soon as Palmer was rumoured as they’re similar) but there won’t be anything in the coffers to really improve the squad.

Totally understand the wheeling and dealing aspect of our set up, and definitely wouldn’t want to see us stretch outside our means, but the purchases of Gus and Vik of £1mil+ the last couple of years had sort of raised excitement that this would gradually increase year on year, with similar additions each summer. Doesn’t seem this is the case this year - even with a potential big sale.

I unfortunately think we’ll be down the bottom because of this, not got the same excitement going into this season at all

You also have Walker and Sheaf 750K signing plus Moore , Waghorn and Bidwell coming in on large salaries and then the majority of the other players getting extensions resulting in increase in wages and then no players being sold for a substantial amount for the last two seasons

So if we manage to loan out the likes of waghorn Walker etc those funds will be invested into the team?

That formation would be very narrow and likely see teams exploiting us down the wings. It would also make our attacking play much narrower, making us easier to defend against, and massively stifle Dabo, even if it might support McCallum's skillset were he to return. But given MR has said how Reid's weakness is his offensive ability and thus pretty much ruled him out of contention due to it, it would them seem very odd to bring someone else in and change the entire formation to suit those exact same things.

Yeah it would be a surprise i agree, but if you use the system the top of the block slides across into a position left by rb and lb. And Eccles and Sheaf have already done that role last season. Its a thought i put out, not what i think he will do. I just looked at the players like Bidwell, Reid, Eccles, Sheaf as they sit better in open play, than they do in getting forward. Just a thought to discuss.

Agree with this really. It's felt like we were building this summer. Doesn't really sound like that in truth based on sbb comments. Generally when we have invested in players they are the profitable ones. Feels like Robins is going to have his work out.

If we get our loans right we may have a decent side. Most of our recent loans have been successful and so given our finances making more use of loans make sense. We have wasted a lot on permanents who we can't shift once we realise they aren't the right fit.

There was the Callum Wilson sell on fee the summer we were promoted. No real problem with having to sell a player as this has always been the case with us, but given the likely fees we could get for Hamer or Vik it beggars belief that Robins wouldn't get some of the funds.

I don’t know why we’d plan a summer around selling Walker and Waghorn. It must of been expected that interest in them would be fairly low.

Fuck me mate, you Must have been slitting your wrists in the league one relegation summer, every post is trying to bring a real downer, and based on absolutely nothing.

we’ve improved year on year under robins, the side we have now is a mid table side. What makes you think we’ll be with the likes of Reading, Rotherham, Birmingham, Blackpool, Wigan, Hull, and Bristol City

The business model is buy wisely to then move on for profit…like the well known “Brentford approach” as we know.

Why people on here are then shocked by Cov selling one of our top three is beyond me…it’s inevitable.

Hamer was bought with the intention of likely selling him after our first champ season, the fact that we managed to keep hold of him for another season is a bonus.

Ohare was a free, an unexpected consequence of our promotion, which let’s be honest was probably a couple of seasons earlier than hoped for (certainly not winners)…so if he continues to improve he will move on in time for profit.

The unexpected promotion also had an adverse consequence, we had bonuses to pay and the squad players purchased on 3 year deals were not of the required champ quality (da costa, jobello etc) so these needed moving on.

Vik is the surprise, whilst on loan he clearly had a bit about him and was raw, so he was a gamble but no one could have predicted a 18 goal season (should have been more).
Being an international he clearly has the most transfer fee potential selling him has to be when his stock is at its highest (probably around now, especially if he doesn’t hit the ground running this season)

Any way you look at it; we have three assets which will bring much needed funds to balance the books from Covid and I hope make the squad better all round.

but who knows 🤣

To call this out however, you were stating it would be a busy summer with lots of movement only a few weeks ago? So what's changed? Surely the circumstances have remained the same

I agree with your comments but if you take a couple of our best players out of the side and not replace them then you’re asking for trouble.

I understand selling one but I don’t think we can Sell Gus and vik

But why? The transfer window has only just opened, the squad has only just got back together for pre-season, and We haven’t actually sold anyone yet.

were you worried when we got promoted to league one and sold McNulty?

Yeah fair point, the impression is we will do though.

Just have to wait and see what happens I do like the Palmer signing to be fair good addition

also think Sam coming back will be a good addition

I think the consensus here is Hamer is gone, sad but inevitable. Vik would only go for a silly offer (I would hope)…it’s like poker in a way, do we sell now when he is off the back of a good season and get a decent silly fee (assuming one comes in) or wait…I mean if he starts the season with a barren run again not only will his contract be lower with us but his value could also take a hit.

i think that’s the conundrum stick or sell for a fee which we haven’t seen for years.

Assume if Hamer goes we'd replace him. Will be interesting to see who they have lined up. Any interesting free's still available?

yeah I was actually good example give you that

I’m not asking for much just seems that we’re looking to make a big sale And are not actively looking at investing in a replacement, from what I’ve read on here

I know its hard but don’t…it makes a refreshing change that we have players in this side that people actually care about! Shows a marked improvement from the “Folivi years” just 5 years ago.

Enjoy the ride it’s the only way, I survived us selling Dublin and Keane and got over it , you will do the same whatever happens , keep positive 🙌
