To be perfectly honest I’m happy with our forward options

think Fabio could feature more this year

and hoping for an improvement from waghorn

Agreed, don't think strikers were a big issue. Defence is where we need significant investment if all else stays the same.

Except all else won’t stay the same. The club have been clear that one of our better players has to be sold this summer. If it’s Vik or COH we are then short of attacking options

Yep, obviously, but until we know who will be sold we don't know what we'll need. Sure the club will have plans either way.

We tighten up at the back , we can quite easily finish towards them playoffs with our current midfield and forward options .. we need 2 quality centre halves as a priority unless we sell an assett then the priority changes

Which is probably the problem the club has tbh

A delicate balancing act when the finances are so tight and we have been scooped by clubs with more money already this window. Players who were previously persona non grata need to be welcomed back to the fold if there are no takers.

Any of the big 3 to be sold must only go if there is a cast iron replacement waiting to sign.

All worries aside .. won't be too many clubs in the top half of the championship with 4 strikers to choose from as good as gyokeres , godden , Walker and waghorn

It's not the forward line that needs work

Depends what your definition of work is, they do need some finishing practice at times! The four, as you say, plus Travares is decent enough you would think, if they want to take a new leaf. You could possibly even lose one of them (Walker or Waghorn) now that Palmer is in I guess.

If we kept everyone and added two or three improvements then you would have to say that was very good news, but sadly it just keeps seeming like one of our better players is going to go. If we are losing quality and depth then that is a downward trajectory unfortunately.

I think Godden and Gyokeres will rotate and play with eachother often this season and between them get around 35 goals, and I think Waghorn will chip in a fair amount this season with about 5/6 from the bench and Tavares will have a breakthrough season I think

Waghorn will go later in the window I suspect. Sounds like he wants to play. I desperately want Walker to do well. You don't score the amount of goals he has at League 2 and League 1 without some strikers instinct. Unfortunately I struggle to remember 1 game he has played well in. Be amazed some top League 1 team or a promoted team wouldn't consider him a risk worth taking.

There‘s literally been just a couple, from memory, where he’s played well (one was the televised match at ‘home’ to Brentford I think it was in our first season back in the Champ)
I too want him to do well & be a whole new Tyler Walker tbh

Then sign the cast iron replacement first, might keep the price down

This is the sort of shift people pull about the championship when they glory hunt or the rest of the PL when talking about the top 6 and is exactly the bollocks that brings a super league around.

American sports fans are different. So fucking what.
it's not different though is it, if they were different that would be fine.

it's a sanitised pastiche of ultra supporters groups

don't worry, we can be equally bad i.e. singing west ham songs at millwall or sheep songs at welsh teams

Walker & Waghorn? Yes - other top half clubs would surely be drooling at the thought of having them in their squad

They wouldn't mind having them as 3rd and 4th choice ... is the point .

Name me 6 teams with more striker depth in the league ?

We also have tavares as a 5th option

Can’t do that without the cash

Unlikely we'd have to stump up much up front (staggered payments) and if the bean counters know they are guaranteed the appropriate income via a sale. If so then I can't see cash flow preventing us making a purchase. The only 'risk' would be if we made a purchase, but the 'sale' fell through, although that would seem highly unlikely. Really hope we manage to get MRs targets sorted asap, and manage to offload at least one of walker and Waghorn (I'm in two minds as to which one, as Waghorn is the better player imo, but Walker is a better age and has time to come good, if only he can rediscover some semblance of form)

I think everyone has identified the need to strengthen the defence. We conceded too many goals to be a play off team.
We scored enough goals last season to be in the play off's, so if we can keep both Godden and Gyokores fit and at the club....the along with W & W we have enough depth in that department. However, I expect Waghorn to go out on loan, so he can play first team football, probably to L1.

I’m not bothered at all we have three in failed with JCS and the kid from Manchester City but that indicates funds are there for the defence add a loan or two we will be well set for the season.

Don't think we're far away to a top 7club a couple of CBs left and right sided and also think hyam, rose will improve further ,will help if rose stays free of injury but a couple more to keep players on there toes.
As for O'Hare, vik leaving I'm not losing sleep over something that hasn't happened yet.

A player I'm surprised we haven't been linked with is Naby Sarr. Left sided centre back seemed to do pretty well at Huddersfield and now out of contract. Being linked with Birmingham and Reading. Pretty sure we were credited with an interest in him when he left Charlton.

Depends if Andy turner says we are interested if not as if he doesn't then we obviously aren't but if he does and then we don't sign him we are allowed to be angry about it

Not sure how good he is though, beyond being another defender, not sure he improves things.

As much as I agree it was nice having JCS last season I think you can over estimate the importance of having a natural left footer. With so many teams playing 3 at the back you pay a premium for them too. I’d rather play Hyam or Rose there than have Sarr.

It makes a huge difference, especially with the way we play and play out. A right footer naturally plays it behind the left wing back who then cannot go forward without checking back first. Watching Hyam at LCB the season before was painful

I'm pretty sure a good ball playing right footed centre back (playing on the left) would be capable of playing the ball in front of the left wing back. Agree it was better with JCS last season (in part because he's left footed) but also because he's a better passer full stop.

I mentioned him earlier in this thread. 6ft 6 left sided centre back with over 100 Championship games under his belt, would be ideal.
