Binks will be one new CB but there is some tough negotiating to do. Any other CB will be development
Norton-Cuffy new RB wouldnt surprise me at all.
Kyprianou new CM (lad at Posh)
Evander new AM (the marquee signing and the statement signing)
Poku new RW
Ricardo Pepi new ST (On Loan with view to perm)

Many one here will say Evander and Pepi are unrealistic, but if we want automatics that is the level we need to aim at.

Why do you make it sound so nailed on that Norton-Cuffy will return?

To get game time? To develop. He isnt going to get a PL side if he cannot get minutes at PSV, top end championship would be a good move for him.
Ipswich is an anamoly to be fair. They wont be promoted either btw.

Again with the certainty - this time about Ipswich - you know fuck all what's gonna happen

I said wouldnt surprise me, not nailed on. He was here before, the management know him, doubt Millwall sign him, i would think he would be keen to come as he would get game time as MVE wont play 46 games given his style of game which relies on explosiveness

Why won't Millwall sign him?

I don't know why he would be keen to come here to be back up, he wouldn't get much game time at all, especially if Sakamoto stays fit, and we bring in another right winger. The only reason Lati is playing right back is because MVE is playing right wing. Even if MVE doesn't play 46 games, he's going to play 36+, so getting 10 starts a season is a step backwards from the 28 last season and the 25 so far this season.

They will miss chances though, they are playing at our level. If they buried every chance they would be at a much higher level.
But they are now taking the kind of chances they missed earlier in the season.

Obviously down to confidence etc. for example Simms wouldn't of even tried the first effort against Huddersfield had it of been earlier on this season.

Our defence plus goalkeeper have already cost quite a bit combined.
IIRC, we were after an experienced CB last summer who ended up chasing the riches of the Saudi. There was the CB Luton signed (Andersen) who is a tad more experienced than Thomas and Kitching.

We’re the fifth best in the league and that’s after a really messy start where defence, keeper and formation were chopped and changed. I think if we keep a more settled back four and keeper, even the same as it is now, they do even better next season.

Unfortunately we’ve had a few obvious fuck ups recently which stand out but overall we’ve got the makings of a solid back line*

What we need to nip in the bud is turning the ball over cheaply in the centre of the pitch, especially with full backs pushed forward letting teams catch us on the break. Happened too often recently

*now expecting a monumental defensive shitshow to gift Leeds late winner

In 2024 we’ve kept 3 clean sheets in 19 or so it’s an area to look at, be it personnel or tactical.

Lati and Burroughs will both be able to cover RB and LB cover next season.

I do wonder if Lati would have worked is way to a starting berth ahead of Thomas or Kitching had Sakamoto stayed fit.

Why would he take the lion share of assists because he’s a striker?

The point is that we’ve beat the output achieved by Gyokeres but not Hamer. If we had a an AM and CM who contribute 20-25 goal involvements, that’s fine.

The concept of ‘Moneyball’ (the BHA and Brentford approaches) is that you need to do what you can statistically improve your team (or at least match).

Overall, we have a ‘stronger’ squad than last season but it’s equally fair to say that we really need to improve our output from the central midfielders and AMs.
We're are playing a different formation is shmeees point.

3 front me. Instead of 2 which explains the goals

3 midifkders instead of 4 which could explain less assists

Depends how good he thinks he is really. We are a top end championship club, if he has confidence in himself why would he not think he can challenge MVE? Robins surely wants 22 players at least who think they should be in the first 11?

Yeah, agree the clean sheet numbers aren’t great but overall GA is good. It is tactical and just some random stupid errors, as I say, that’s not just keeper/Defence errors but losing the ball cheaply in the middle of the pitch in our our half. Still don’t get Robins thinking by playing Binks, Dasilva and Wilson in certain games when others were fit earlier in the year either

I’d personally be happy enough with Collins, MvE, Thomas, Kitching and Bidwell as backline next season….assuming silly errors get cut out. Defence/keeper are a unit and it usually gets better the more they play with each other (no sniggering at the back).

I've been told to expect a bigger churn than we thought there would be in the summer

Which surprises me i must admit. Robins clearly isnt happy with some aspects of the squad if thats the case

Tbf I'm not that surprised. I was expecting at least 8 new players this summer anyway.

At least 3 forwards. Another winger, a striker to replace Godden and an O'Hare replacement. Then potentially another to replace tavares.

At least 1CM to replace Kelly and maybe even an upgrade on Allen.

A CB to replace Binks but even then, it's still an area to bolster if there are better options.

One of da Silva/bidwell will go is my bet.

Wilson to leave and try and upgrade on Collins again.

That's not even considering it someone comes in for Sheaf etc.

If we’re going money no object then I’d go as the 25 next season:

Collins/Young GK who can challenge him
MvE/Young RB we can groom for when MvE goes next summer
Thomas/Older experienced CB
Kitching/LCB like Binks
Dasilva/Money signing LB in the MvE style/age
Torp/Money signing CM Hamer replacement
Sheaf/Eccles
Palmer/Money singing AM who has best of Palmer and O’Hare
Sakamoto/Young RW
Simms/ST we can groom for when Simms goes next season
Wright/EMC

Then Lats/Allen and a player who can play any of the front four roles to make it to 25.

I like the look of Carlos Sandberg who plays for Hatyaspor in Turkey, plays RW and ST,
12 goals in 33 games this season 27 so no spring chicken but in his prime, contract expires in 2027 and just signed for them but I reckon he’d be a good signing, at ST this season 13 games 10 goals, at RW 19 games 2 goals 1 assist, is quick and powerful real handful, just not sure about his workrate

Unfortunately not. Buy out clause is the max anyone has to pay. It won’t go over. It will be down to which club his agent and him decide.

That can’t be true. Surely the buy out clause is between club and player to agree to sell if one or more clubs trigger the buyout number. There is no contract with any bidding club at that stage, and if the player wants to go to a higher bidder that is his prerogative and Sporting will have to agree to it.

No club has to bid more than the buy out clause.

Once the buy out price is hit then the selling club have a legal obligation to allow the player to leave if the player chooses too.

any bidding war will be on the package to the player not the club.
