Hang on a minute ... Stewards and police "caught up in the disorder"?? They are meant to be there (and WE are paying for them) to prevent and proactively manage potential for disorder, not just give it the big "I am" and bully fans in the ground! They patently failed to do so on Saturday. Simply keeping the Mackems in the ground for 10 minutes would have helped, but the segregation outside is hopeless unless a crowd of that size is managed by lines of police vans and personnel. And putting the away coaches right outside the away end would be step 1!
If you watch a few youtube videos of the way some police forces successfully manage MUCH bigger numbers and potential for serious disorder, you'd see how hopeless the management of that situation was!

I heard from a steward that in their briefing pre match they were told there are a large number of away fans today but we aren’t expecting any trouble.

Bit worrying the lack of intel

I just assumed they would keep them in for a few minutes.

Was surprised when I got round by the Casino there were hundreds of away fans just walking the opposite way into the city fans who were walking down towards the roundabout etc.

A few of them looked like they were dickheads giving it the walk, most were just minding their own business getting back to their car.

Not me was round the other side of the ground with the kids today.Sure it will be fun and games when we play them at their place also
No it won't. We won't take 5000ish fans there, most of the people who travel up will be decent football following fans, and will unfortunately most likely be targeted by the Sunderland fans wanting revenge/to prove how hard they are.
I've been to watch us at Sunderland a number of times, and it's not been a pleasant experience - the post-match stuff on Saturday will only have inflamed that for the morons.

It was actually fairly substantial.

Kicked off in a number of places simultaneously and from what I could see it was generally Cov lads instigating it. In fact on coming out I saw a number of Cov jumping the barriers and literally picking fights with a number of Sunderland fans, that was before it went off on the grass etc.

If that's correct that's very poor from the Ricoh. It was all over social media etc prior to the match. Sure most of us viewed it as keyboard warriors but those in charge of safety should have been aware.

Bit worrying the bloke in charge of safety at the Ricoh really doesn't seem to have much of an idea.

The reply saying away fans feel discriminated by being help for 15 mins is ridiculous. Other stadiums do it as a matter of safety.

On night games the walk back to card park c is horrible if you're on your own. Never any police at the tunnel.

So can the hard men on here clarify whether we won or not ?! Or was it a draw like the match. Sunderland win the arrest count thus far ?!

The softy on here can confirm that he sniffed the trouble well before it happened. snuck off in a safer direction, and lived to be able to turn up for the hard men of Pompey. Nobody wins a 'fight' against rocks and stones. IO Legion outside the Wheatsheaf. At about 10.50am there were probably 150-200? Must have been happy hour!?

Good plan, no one wanted to end the weekend like Burge with a nasty bump on the noggin !

Let's be fair, this won't be the case.

We'll take at least 3000 with most of those being the lads on the beer going to the big away day of the season. Look at MK last season.

I think after this I would advise fans not to wear colours up there. Such a shame as met some real decent fans of theirs who wished us well. Why can't the rats do it away from the ground where decent people and families don't get caught up.

I know of just under 20 lads with digs already booked up for the weekend in Newcastle for Sunderland Away and most of them were in the Wheatsheaf on Saturday! Newcastle is a bouncing night out and you can get the Metro from Newcastle City Centre to the Stadium of Light or Seaburn just down the road from it, so it’s a pretty simple journey..
You best make sure Santa Claus brings you some Stone Island this year!
