the hacked Podesta e-mail of the two staffers discussing Catholics in the Conservative movement brought about a huge swing in the Catholic vote from Clinton to Trump. It won him a few states.
It looks like the Catholic vote is fairly split at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if with either camp had a damaging revelation up their sleeve to swing the Catholic vote again - Trump made a girlfriend have an abortion, Biden is really a Buddhist - some shit like that.

Clinton was a long way ahead in the polls last time and her rallies took on more of a victory lap yet still lost the presidency despite winning the popular vote. A few days before the election FBI released the info about the investigation and that itself may have been enough to swing it. You'd hope that lessons had been learned and that complacency won't be there this time.

Far too long to go for someone to throw something in from left field that might alter perceptions and who gets their vote.

you're right. He's badly let down parts of the rust belt, not delivered on one promise and overseen the economy of those areas deteriorate more than it did under Obama - but it seems they're still going to vote for him.

But that doesn't matter the political demographics of the USA have realigned. The Rust Belt states don't really matter in who wins the US election anymore.

In the "battleground" states Biden is way ahead. Trump has tanked with the independent voters and you can't win them as all you have is your base then.

Biden is 7 points clear in places Pennsylvania, Almost 5 points up in florida and many more. Even Texas is a toss up now.

People act like Trump won in a Landslide in 2016 when in reality if less than 100k hand of voted differently in a country of 100 million clinton is president.

The Catholic vote I mentioned swung Pennsylvania last time, maybe it's sticking with Democrat this time around.
Texas has I think 10 of the fastest growing cities in America, which generally indicates swelled by immigrants or 2nd/3rd generation immigrants and traditionally Democrat voters.

I was told a couple of years ago that in 20 years Texas would be a strong Democrat state - perhaps it's happening early?

As with all surveys you have to bear in mind the flaws with the methods, however probably not much of a surprise that the people most likely to want Trump to win are those lovable Conservative Brexit types

In Pennsylvania if you can win Philly and Pittsburgh by enough it will cancel out the more conservative rural areas.

Texas has a massive booming (legal before any racists jump in) latino population who will largely vote Democrat every time. Which is interesting as a large part of them are very religious and socially conservative so look like they should be republican voters but if you spend a generation demonising people they are not going to vote for you.
