He came here from Forest because he wanted to play regular football. If he's not getting regular football here, why would he stay?Seriously? I can't imagine another Championship club would offer him one with his record. I would have thought he would jump at the opportunity if he has any confidence in his ability. A return to League 1 or 2 would be pretty poor career wise. I hope he can show over the next couple of months that he is worth retaining as I suspect he might be.
Because otherwise he would have to drop down at least a division. If he’s offered a contract here he will have had to do something in the next couple of months to suggest he is capable of making an impact here.He came here from Forest because he wanted to play regular football. And if he has confidence in himself, drop down a division, score the goals he did at mansfield and Lincoln, and he's hot property again.Because otherwise he would have to drop down at least a division. Maybe you're right but I am not convinced. It hasn't really worked for Clark-Harris. He'd have to do really well in League 1 to get a better team than us the year after, and he'd have wasted a year at presumably a lower salary as well as playing at a lower level. And if he has confidence in himself, drop down a division, score the goals he did at mansfield and Lincoln, and he's hot property again.
What's Clarke-Harris got to do with it? We sold him whilst we were in League one to a league one team, he is still in league one so hasn't dropped down a league since leaving us.Maybe you're right but I am not convinced. Doesn't have to be a better team than us though. We weren't a better team than Forest when he signed for us.Maybe you're right but I am not convinced. It hasn't really worked for Clark-Harris. The point i was making is that he scored a lot of goals at League 1 level but Championship clubs haven't been falling over themselves to sign him. What's Clarke-Harris got to do with it? But Forest didn't want him?Doesn't have to be a better team than us though. We weren't a better team than Forest when he signed for us.
And get the right League One team, and he'sin this division the season after anyway.
That seems far more of a plan than hang around with us, getting the occasional sub appearance and wasting his career away.
But they haven't been falling over themselves partly because he hasn't been playing and scoring. Same as he needed a loan move from Forest to have us fall over ourselves to sign him in the first place. Profile counts for a fair bit, doesn't it.The point i was making is that he scored a lot of goals at League 1 level but Championship clubs haven't been falling over themselves to sign him.
That's because he isn't good enough for the championship. Which has been proven in the 2-3 times he's played in the division. If your good enough and score enough goals you'll get picked up.The point i was making is that he scored a lot of goals at League 1 level but Championship clubs haven't been falling over themselves to sign him.

So if he backs himself, he needs somewhere where he gets that chance to show what he's about.
I agree on Clark-Harris. I think it is still to be seen with regard to Walker and don't think Championship clubs would readily be convinced given his record at this level up to now. Hence I am sure he would sign any contract we offered him. That's because he isn't good enough for the championship. Which has been proven in the 2-3 times he's played in the division. That's assuming he is only interested in Money and not playing football. He would rather stay at Cov playing 10-15 mins here and there, getting slagged off by the majority of the fan base, than go somewhere the league below and start 40+ games a season.I agree on Clark-Harris. I guess only he knows, and of course that is subject to us even offering him contract anyway, which is probably unlikely. That's assuming he is only interested in Money and not playing football. The other question of course is, even if you were happy to have Walker as one of your squad players, would you want to offer a contract to somebody who was satisfied with how his past couple of seasons with us have gone?I guess only he knows, and of course that is subject to us even offering him contract anyway, which is probably unlikely.
No. Which is why he would have to achieve something in the next couple of months to get offered one. Let's hope yesterday will be the start of that,The other question of course is, even if you were happy to have Walker as one of your squad players, would you want to offer a contract to somebody who was satisfied with how his past couple of seasons with us have gone?
I guess he has had injuries, and that hasn't helped, but...
That's not what I meantNo. Which is why he would have to achieve something in the next couple of months to get offered one. Let's hope yesterday will be the start of that,
He hasn't played much because he has had better players ahead of him. He would need to prove that he has a potential role in the side. If he can do that in the coming months good. That's not what I meant
Nope, still not what I meant! He hasn't played much because he has had better players ahead of him. He would need to prove that he has a potential role in the side. If he can do that in the coming months good.
If you're implying he should feel dissatisfied by his treatment by Robins and he wouldn't be worth having if he doesn't feel that way I simply don't agree.Nope, still not what I meant!

So, could we get a better third choice striker at this level, especially when we tend to play one up front? Probably not.even if you were happy to have Walker as one of your squad players, would you want to offer a contract to somebody who was satisfied with how his past couple of seasons with us have gone?
If he showed sufficient evidence of desire (and ability) over the next couple of months then I would. But at the moment it looks a tall order. So, could we get a better third choice striker at this level, especially when we tend to play one up front? Probably not.
So... you'd offer him a contract based on that.
But... does it show a will to win, and a desire to progress, if an established player is happy to be third choice striker and therefore sign a new contract? probably not.
So... you'd not offer him a contract based on that.
I think his time here is probably over, regardless of what happens over the next couple of months. If he showed sufficient evidence of desire (and ability) over the next couple of months then I would. But at the moment it looks a tall order.

tbf, we turned Huddersfield down last season.A championship club would never have signed Godden
I think you move him on and bring in a younger third choice with potential at this point. Same could be said for Godden as well in fairness, and no I'm not knocking what he's done for us, he's been great. So, could we get a better third choice striker at this level, especially when we tend to play one up front? Probably not.

At that time no. But he only had two in front of him and chose to pass when on a hat-trick. I certainly didn't expect the pass.I'm less convinced than you that when Vik took these two guys on (instead of passing to his right) that he was thinking about setting up Walker for a goal.

Absolutely agree and while most of them have contributed to where we are this season IF we had better players with the same mentality we would almost certainly be higher up the league. We definitely need to add quality to the team to compliment what we already have and hopefully make the big 3 or 4 think about maybe giving us another season. If we progress next season (unless we fluke promotion this season) who knows what we could achieve lets hope Robins is the man to take us up and keep us thereI think both sides of the argument stand true here. From what I've seen of Godden this season, he looks pretty underwhelming. That's coming from someone who absolutely loves him, and in previous seasons I would have backed him up 100%.
At the same time, a game against an extremely poor Huddersfield has brought some slightly strange views out. Walker has been poor for most of the last two years, with a few exceptions. Another player that fits into that category is Dabo.
Yet, you have posters going around hurling insults at those who have challenged whether either player have a future at the club, and have clearly been waiting for a very long time to have some evidence to put that point of view forward.
We've gone on to infinity this season about how much deadwood we have in the squad, and how much we need to have a clear out in the summer. Based on one game you'd end up giving half of those players new contracts if you listened to some of those on here.
I don't think any of these players are awful, and I thank them for their time, but let's have a reality check. If we want to move forward, it's time for them to try their luck elsewhere.
