It will be a real shame if he finishes his time here on a negative note. He seems fed up.

Barely made an effort to clap the fans yesterday. First down the tunnel. It's a proper shame.

Started the season really well , got absolute pelters for the fingers in ears , got dogs abuse on twitter so much so that he hasn't posted since July besides block people who were sending him abuse constantly, which they also didn't like (weird one ) seems to me that he's let it all get to him .. confidence is absolutely zero and anybody that played football knows when you're looking to get on the end of the ball when your confidence is shot , you're focusing way too much on not missing , he's not even hitting the ball correctly at this point .

Players clearly read things , ellis simms also making a gesture towards supporters after scoring too ..

Our fans really need to get back to supporting the lads , rather than destroying them on social media , there is an entitlement in the fanbase that wasn't there before and its shit tbh

most match threads dominated by wether 1 player is playing And how upset fans will get because they now think he's shit .

It's all rather boring and a little sad to see

Yea agree with this, I particularly didn't like how he was berating new team mates early this season whilst he was scoring and they struggled.

Seems to surround himself with sycophants like Dawkins so it wouldn't surprise me if he's bringing the attitude issues into training.

There's definitely an unjustified ego at this level. Kelly as an example just gets on with it and accepts his role is different now.

Yeah it’s that, the apparently complaining to Robins about playing time when he’s played more than ever, the fingers in the ears. And it’s only him that’s been like it and it makes it look like he thinks he’s bigger than the club when everyone else pulls together. Just puts my nose out of joint and makes me less likely to defend him TBH.

High profile players do, they can afford it. There should be some decency involved for players at our level.
Also, high profile players get abused from every 'top 6' twitter football fan with a player as their avatar (of which there are countless), so there is a LOT of abuse and probably needs taking out their hands. Our players obviously won't get that as largely the wider football sphere doesn't care about them so they should be able to go about their social media lives 'relatively' hassle-free without paying someone to manage it. The only real abuse they will get is off their own fans, which in itself is absolutely ridiculous.

There are a couple of current players who I don't necessarily rate, but I want them all to do well and will support them all. I don't understand why anyone would want to send one of their own players abuse on social media. Mind-boggling.

Its definitely OTT as the Wright Simms Palmer Eccles Dasilva abuse has been this season.

I don’t hate him, but this season (and a bit last with the rumours about him and Vik) his attitude has pissed me off. Which is probably the difference for a lot. If he was banging them in he’d get support (and did at the start of the season), but you can’t be an arse and not deliver.
I agree, I just wonder how much truth there is to the rumours but no doubt it does change people's perception and tolerance for mistakes and poor performances and understand that, coupled to the Arsenal pic which will annoy others but hate and the words used (not yours) are poor for what he has done.

I found it strange at Wimbledon at the start of the year with the goal celebration which wasn't warranted or even understood by me at the time, I guess with the new signings he felt the pressure and reacted

I haven’t seen that conclusively TBH. There was the Oxford sulk as well. Goddens attitude has been far far worse than Simms after far far better treatment from management and fans TBH.
I think you're buying into the tosspots narrative a bit too much , what we are saying is a footballer can't be effected differently than another based on the level of abuse they are getting .

Which is shite , his form has dropped in line with fan abuse , it's that even questionable ?

Not a slight against Simms as I think he’s improving but he can have poor games and miss ‘sitters’ and get praised for his work rate. Godden may not be ‘delivering’ but he presses his arse off for the team and is still getting into positions to score (okay, miss). While I agree he’s looking out of sorts and not playing well, with a squad as thin as ours, we literally need him, if only off the bench.

Simms has been getting absolute pelters from day 1...

Is the abuse that Godden is getting egregiously worse than other players? I’ve not seen evidence that it is.

This is not to say that any level of abuse from fans is acceptable, of course.

It's absolutely not worse than Wright and Simms and I don't think its even close. Although some of it is a bit weirder.

He has , and responded to fans when he scored too , the players are obviously seeing the shit that fans write
I don't really have a problem with that. Is it not expected to an extent at all clubs though? Its hardly a CCFC thing is it. There are some weird football fans out there.

I don’t mind if players are criticised - in tbe end it’s a game of opinions and players have to accept that as well as plaudits

What I don’t understand is when players give a bit back there is hyper sensitivity

Yeh agree that's weird. I don't think players should be on Twitter really if I'm honest. I know that's not right necessarily but if I'm a manager I'm telling them to get off it.

The difference on here is that players criticised also have support - some well over the top - godden has few advocates and many many detractors

I do see some batshit weirdos tbf but I'm assuming I see more CCFC stuff on my feed than other clubs.

I literally said in the post you’re replying to that there isn’t any level of abuse which is acceptable.

We all agree on that but it nevertheless exists and that’s just reality. It’s up to Godden how he responds to it and it seems like he’s taking it worse than most others - my question is, is that because the abuse he’s getting is worse, or something else?

People are not saying you can't discuss players ..

But there's been alot of nasty shit directly tagged into our players , especially godden on twitter and that's wrong

Neither have got any stick from fans in the ground.

In fact, nothing have their names sung loudly.

Yeah at the start of the season Godden was the only one scoring. The other formation suited him better, I think, but our midfield and backline didn't work, and the new attacking players neither. We had to change formation, it worked, but several players (i.e. Fadz) have paid the price for an overall better team situation. But quality centre-forwards, especially those able to play and score in our current system, are very expensive, and we have to rotate the players we've got. So Gooden will continue to play, and with luck, if he gets two chances in 60 minutes or 1 in 30 minutes, at some point he starts putting them away again. No enquiry is needed really. Meanwhile, good for Simms if people think his play was improved last night; and he got a goal. I just think there was half an hour in the first half where we dominated them completely and had nothing to show for it, and then we weren't able to keep that control in the second half even when we brought on Wright and Sakamoto. No wonder MR was a bit frustrated with it all.

I've tagged people in the thread about godden before on here but there's a certain level of amnesia when it comes to matty .

Some fans have simply ALWAYS been weird about him

I literally said in the post you’re replying to that there isn’t any level of abuse which is acceptable.
Also have to distinguish between abuse, and being allowed an opinion on a player. As Tom said, here is a place to give that opinion, but it isn't reasonable to direct that opinion at the player themselves - if Steve Walsh, say, was in a pub I was drinking in I wouldn't walk up to him and tell him his was the shittest performance I've ever seen by a Coventry player, but I'd happily tell my mates that!

Likewise, here, we have to be allowed to say whether we think a player plays well or not. Some, have runs of consistently not playing well, and that has to be allowed to be said as well. People can disagree, of course.

The bizarre psychoanalytic readings we have of players stand out mind. Allen being a bit thick, and Wright as an introvert with poor social skills being particular 'favourites'!

In which case it’s a question of whether he’s responding especially well. In the absence of any evidence that he’s being disproportionately targeted by this kind of abuse then I’d say he needs some help, and I say that out of sympathy rather than criticism.

We should be able to find takers. I’d like him to leave on a good note.
Wouldn't be surprised he wasn't offered to Peterborough as a.makeweight in the deal, trying to get EMC through the door,if he had any inkling of that could explain the form?

To who though? The atmosphere in the ground has been nothing but supportive.

Snap back on social media or block it whatever but to bring it into games when fans don’t is a dick move TBH. And as I say it’s a pattern of behaviour. Who else has we heard complaining about playing time let alone when they’re the sixth most played player? Who else have we heard about training ground bust ups with? Who else has refused to celebrate a goal? It all adds up to a picture of an arse.

I suppose from Goddens perspective he has consistently delivered for the club since he’s been here.

He’s got what 50 goals in just over 100 starts

It’s a strange old world when you get some mass adulation for players like Biamou (who was rubbish) and now people are describing Simms as if he’s Alan Shearer.

Godden isn’t a cult figure or fashionable but he can point at his record and it stands up against most players in the squad. Palmer as another example has scored 1 league goal in nearly 30 games and a couple of assist but has on here described as world class.

The truth is he’s probably done a lot better in this league than we’d have thought possible - it’s inevitable frustrating when inferior contributors are eulogised for doing far less.
