Seems to me his head is somewhere else, on the pitch. Plus, the system isn’t geared towards a typical ‘poacher’ as such.
Personally, given his age and his off the field issues with fans on social media (that’s has clearly got to him), it would benefit him to move on in the Summer.
For a player who was knocking around the doldrums and L1 (correct me if I’m wrong) for most of his career, he’s done so well at this level, but perhaps dropping down a league and a change of club is what he needs.
