Southgate has his flaws, but I can't really see anyone else coming in and winning something with this squad. Supremely gifted in the midfield department and so much strength in depth, but defensively we are weak and upfront is no better. We have half a world class lineup, the other half is nowhere near.

So if we are supremely gifted in midfield, what are Spain? Rodri got taken off and we still barely touched the ball!

Most of these players don't play in teams that set up like Crystal Palace under Roy Hodgson , it's easy to see how it can all go so wrong .. Spain never sat in at all tbh.

It genuinely needs a Jürgen Klopp to play to the strengths of what we have. The FA should pay him whatever he wants.

We looked dull and pedestrian all tournament.

Only exception was the first half v Netherlands when they allowed us too much space in midfield.

Yet Spains Morata is not a mile ahead of Toney/Watkins ( he used to be) The difference is the movement and quick passing behind him and proper use of wingers. To not have given Gordon a run all tournament when we had nothing on the left was poor. I would add that when Spain had the ball we didn't press ( Kanes lack of pace!) , but when we had it, Spain did , and regained possession.

Their team isn't miles ahead of ours , they have a manager who sets up and plays a way that suits their players ..

We play like we're trying to stay up

I think what shows the fact they are miles ahead is that our team couldn’t even play like that if we wanted to!

Micah Richards said the first sensible thing he has in a long time…a super defensive coach in charge of players who aren’t compatible with that. 3 tournaments chucked away by Gareth is quite enough

It was a pretty dull final for a dull tournament, the players from all countries look knackered and they are pushing them even more with pointless world club cup tournaments.

In the players we have behind the striker we have the ability to play in that way, I don't know why we don't.
