Well, I said not to be disappointed with the draw but the performance was largely insipid. There are a few serious decisions to be made. If you play Kane, then as far as I’m concerned the wingers have to be Gordon and Saka as they’re the only ones willing to run in behind. If you play Bellingham, play him deeper and Foden in front. And for fucks sake put a passable left back on the pitch (haven’t got one).

I got ridiculed for drafting up this lineup when we were at preliminary squad stage but it’d have worked a whole lot better than the shite we’re seeing:

I can draw and be content if the performance warrants it .. but that was as bad as I can remember England play at a tournament , even games where we've lost we've been much better

Don’t think Italy would be too disappointed finish in 2nd in this group to be honest.

Winner of group B plays a 3rd place team in the Ro16 and then most likely Germany in the quarters.

Runner up of group B plays the runner up in group A and then the winner of England’s group or a third place team in the quarters.

Feels a bit England 2018 where 2nd place gives an easier run to the semis than 1st place.

It was very bad today but it was a great performance compared to the whole of 2010, Iceland 2016, Italy 2012, the whole of 2014.

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with what's he's said there, he's right. That's his preferred system & it's served us well in the past. The flip side, & the fans argument, is they don't want us to play that way.

The below interview was some months ago now & I think is pretty fair. Since then Wharton has really emerged though & I'd be giving him a go in that position.

Give Josh Eccles another season…

Okay with the result to be honest. Happy to have a wobble in the group stages. Easily fixable and tunes in the minds.

It's worrying isn't it. The reality is that only Guehl truly had a decent game. Flashes from Saka and Watkins, but that was about it.

Bellingham had an off game and I have never seen Declan Rice play so poorly before and Kane is so frustrating.

I would definitely be looking to make a few changes against Slovenia.

Time for Mainoo I think and then also for either Gordon, Palmer, of Bowen to start.

Be good if we could be winning the game easily with a fair bit of time left in the game, so we could get Shaw on for a few mins. See how rusty he is.

It’s really simple, don’t put shit players like Trent and kane in the team. Play to our strengths and have an all out attacking set up.

What a shit show from Southgate - Trent out for a start would be improvement , he is the new Henderson . Gallagher looks like a League 1 player - Eze hadnt a clue where to play when he came on . The Danes were so much better organised - Foden not playing in the right position - post Serbia message from Southgate was get Kane in the game and fortunately he was in the right place for Walkers brilliant turn of speed

Shearer was on speed clearly

The pitch was a liability , so
Many misplaced passes - wouldn’t be surprised if there were quite a few muscle strains this morning

The guy is talking absolute nonsense I'm sorry , people are starting to laugh at him

Again, every thing he has said there is correct & there are many challenges he faces but it's his job to come up with solutions.
As he admits himself, these are not new problems & the fact we've begun the tournament without a clear plan is not good enough.

It was his decision not to take another natural LB, Tyrick Mitchell was surely worth a look.

The whole set-up of the team is wrong too & the likes of Kane & TAA are being hung out to dry.

He shouldn't be a football manager , it's no different to any other international team , he's waffling

Southgate's strength seems to be off the pitch. He's done a brilliant job of bringing the players together, putting aside club rivalries, and making them want to play for England again. Everyone who has played under him for England has said this.

He's OK at setting a team up and preparing them tactically for a game. However he hasn't got a clue how to change or influence things during a game. As soon as his pre game plan goes out the window, he's utterly clueless.

His only strategy at that point is bring on a like-for-like player and just hope they can come up with some magic. There's never a change of shape or instructions or anything like that.

He consistently gets out thought and outmanaged by his opposite number and it's been exactly the same since the day he started, nothing has changed on that front.

People can point to his record and say look how well he's done - well the flip side of that is how many trophies could/should we have with an actual decent manager in charge?

Maybe we should have hired him as a tag along mate for the players

Don’t even know who we get in to replace him to be honest. Will probably have to be a foreigner because this country is dire at producing decent coaches.

I think it'll be Potter and tbh I'd be happy with that.

He's a really good coach, with a defined playstyle and tactically very good.

Obviously he was poor at Chelsea but that club is a mess at the moment and the wrong move for him.

If we go foreign then maybe Klopp but I don't think he'd be interested.

This kinda proves the point about stats being useful but also needing to watch a game. Did anyone think Rice was good last night? I thought he was shite personally.

I actually thought he did quite well given he was basically playing in midfield on his own with Trent just floating around.

It's not our job to find a replacement , there are thousands of managers / coaches out there and many will fit the profile

If he wants something different, try Wharton or Mainoo. Tell them to sit, keep it simple and just keep it ticking over and feeding Foden, Bellingham Saka and Rice. Problem with trent, for all his range of passing, is he doesn’t have a quick tempo to his game and can give ball away cheaply. Can’t do that at top level Having said that, so did every other fucker last night.

Southgate had a shocker last night but so did most of the team. Not seen a performance that poor for a while. Need a response Tuesday

I'd also ask anybody if they can remember a tournament winner that's looked as poor as England in their opening 2 games

And Maddison couldn’t get in this squad. Laughable decision,

According to the ratings, no one scored even a 6 or higher. Everyone was a 5-someting or below, even Guehi. I don't see how anyone can say certain players had a decent game. They were all shit, just some were shitter than others.

Guehi was good in a poor performance. Never a 5 or below
