I mean you said Kyiv would fall inside 3 days and that WW3 would start as soon as Ukraine received jets so really there's only one of us who knows nothing.
My history is a little hazy but wasn’t the point WW2 to remove uncle Adolf not uncle Joe?
Your lack of understanding of Russian history and its culture is the relevance here
I think you need to read properly Tony but the fact you and the Farmer Boy are together in the Dumb and Dumber Anschluss is genuinely satisfying.
Oh I read correctly. Russia was fighting with allies in a winnable war. Not least to liberate its own sovereign territory. At no point was the purpose of WW2 to remove Stalin from power. The amount of deaths in relation to uncle Joe being or not being removed from power is a complete irrelevance to not only WW2 but even more so the hole Putin has dug himself into. Kind of funny that you’re attempting to lecture people on Russian history when you’re deliberately making up your own context on Russian history. Either that or you don’t actually understand it yourself.I think you need to read properly Tony but the fact you and the Farmer Boy are together in the Dumb and Dumber Anschluss is genuinely satisfying.
You just asked me if modern day capitalist Russia and 1940s communist USSR are the same

Capitalist Russia?
Was Stalin a communist? I’d suggest not.
No tony I was replying to your friend and his peculiar assertion that 300,000 deaths in a war will bring regime change
Yeah if only he actually said that you still wouldn’t have a point. Given you were adding your own context to the purpose of WW2No tony I was replying to your friend and his peculiar assertion that 300,000 deaths in a war will bring regime change
Vladimir Putin has vowed to create “problems” for Finland by placing troops near its border as punishment for joining Nato.
The Russian leader said his country had been at peace with Finland until the US and the EU persuaded Helsinki to join the Western military alliance.
“They took and dragged Finland into Nato,” he said during an interview with Russia’s Rossiya 1 TV. “There were no problems. Now there will be because we will now create the Leningrad Military District and concentrate certain military units there,” Putin said.
Win?It's a bit risky turning against Putin or the war in Russia (see Prigozhin and everyone jailed for criticising the war). I think he'll win the election too. If we're holding out for the overthrow of Putin and the rest of the current regime I think we might be waiting quite a while.
I'm sure a 58 year old Ukrainian who has lived elsewhere for 20 years is going to be chomping at the bit to go and take part. Perhaps they can do a swap scheme for some of the action men on here
Ukraine forcibly conscripting ex-pats into the war - guess the much anticipated Crimea takeover isn’t happening just yet - pretty despicable from the Ukraine hierarchy
Ukraine could recall men living abroad to boost battle-stricken forces
Ukraine could begin recruiting refugees living in Europe in a bid to boost its battle-stricken armed forces.www.telegraph.co.uk

Russia have been forcing people to the front lines since the war began.
Of course it's only now that you decide its a sign of weakness.
And still you're more criticial of the Ukrainian government than the Russian government.
And the difference with the new Russian law that says Russians with foreign permanent residency or dual citizenship can be conscripted?
Do you agree with the Ukraine stance?
Ukraine didn’t allow men of fighting age to flee the country from day one I believe?

Maybe they just had bone spurs in their heels.‘There were no active discussions on the recruitment of Ukrainians from overseas, he added’
Will have to see how it plays out but probably no harm to show Putin that they can call on more personnel if needs be. You’d hope some negotiations would take place before they started calling people back though
This won’t go down well either way…
‘There have also been reports of officials taking bribes from draft dodgers to obtain permission to exit Ukraine’
Well that's a big if, certainly wouldn't advocate my grandson no matter where it were, especially as it would from political failure.after 75 years of peace dividendMaybe they just had bone spurs in their heels.
What is interesting is the average age of a Ukrainian soldier, it’s 43. They don’t seem to have that much of an issue getting volunteers from any age group, like you say it’s probably as much a show of strength to Putin that they can call on numbers if needed.
As predicted, it'll end with negotiations and a settlement. The stuff about it going on as long as Ukraine wanted was never going to happen. I'd imagine behind closed doors in Europe there's also a lot of fatigue with it all and billions being spent on it.Interesting read
Cease fire being the key phrase. Pause hostilities by getting Ukraine to sign away some land, rebuild the military then go back in for more.As predicted, it'll end with negotiations and a settlement. He's probably fucked up both Russia and Ukraine with the war. The counteroffensive has ultimately failed and was likely met with a lot of disappointment from the West after how much it was hyped up and the money spent on it. At this point, I'm more inclined for the deaths of innocent men, women and children to end, rather than an ongoing war that will never progress past a stalemate. At the start of this conflict your posts were very sensible and balanced, and very similar to mine.
You talked of Putin having fucked it and fucked Russia for generations, that Ukraine could even win the war.
Now Putin is a genius who's played a blinder. It's very odd.
There would be zero chance of the West agreeing to sign land away under conditions of a ceasefire.Cease fire being the key phrase. Pause hostilities by getting Ukraine to sign away some land, rebuild the military then go back in for more.
