Id have expected him to play as much of a part as the likes of Kai Andrew’s. If he’s injured again that’s not a good sign after several injuries in six months already.

just feels like he never got going.
He’s not even necessarily injured. Could have been any reason for him not playing the game. May have just been a case of bad blisters from the heat over there. He was pictured in training and in the gym all week so I’m sure he’s fine.

It’s not really any different to Wright going off after one dash down the wing. Even if he’s got a slight knock, he’s not going to play in a preseason fixture.

I’m not necessarily saying you’re concerns aren’t valid, it’s just far too earlier to say - he missed the first preseason game and that’s it.

Always difficult for players who join in January from leagues that play at a different time of year. He won't have had a normal preseason where you build up fitness in games that don't matter and follow the same program as the rest of the team. He did fine last year but suspect we'll see a different player this season.
That's fair. Although he didn't walk off the plane with his shorts on and go straight on the pitch as some were suggesting. He had more than a month off.
He didn't play much last year, had a couple of injuries and is reportedly injured again now. So there is a question mark there.
Here's hoping he comes good.

A month off where he wouldn’t have been training and would have been on holiday though. It’s a bit like if our season suddenly started on July 1st this year and we weren’t given advance notice.

Not really. He must have known he was in and being looked at by English teams with a January start window.
As I say. He certainly didn't have a usual preseason though.

I don’t want to labour the point because I’m not that hung up on it. But it’s not just this pre season game, he failed to establish himself as a starter since he signed. He didn’t start against Man Utd despite his heroics. He started four in a row just after he signed, then dropped, then three, then dropped, then one, dropped, one, injured. Just not heading in the right direction.

I’ve seen enough to know there’s a very good player in there. Goal vs Wednesday, assist vs Plymouth etc just not quite up to the speed of the championship which was to be expected. He’ll kick on this year.

Just remind yourself about previous times you’ve judged players too early…

Let things play out, if he’s still not broken into the team by game 10, then you can probably start to hit the panic button.

He’d had 5 weeks off preseason, signed for us in the first week of preseason and replaced Sheaf (and Allen) in the team when he got injured - definitely prematurely. It’s not a surprise he kept picking up injuries, we were forced into playing him too early.

You’re making this more than it is, I just have concerns he’s not kicking on and establishing himself. I’m not “writing him off”.

@shmmeee is right, we shouldn't assume Torp is gonna cut it based on a few glimpses. People call Palmer out for not being consistent, not playing enough etc. Torp had a few good games or spells in games and missed an annoying amount with injuries. Jury is out for me. Needs to kick on from the start this season.

Just as you were concerned Wright looked like Bakayoko from his highlight reel.

The concerns are based on missing one preseason game (with others, not being on the YouTube diary vids) which is flimsy, at best.

It's a two way street, you can't assume he isn't going to make it because he's had a few niggling injuries. I wouldn't even cast a final judgment on him from half a dozen games of the forthcoming season.

Calm down everyone. No one has said Torp isn’t going to make it or should be written off.

That’s my worry. January signing in a desperately needed position and can’t break into the team consistently. Now the only first team player not fit for pre season. And he was older when we signed than our usual. He needs to get himself fit and playing soon really. We shouldn’t all be saying we need a CM when we signed one in Jan.
Was he signed to come straight into the first team? Remember Robins comments at the time, "“He will need a period of adjustment but we are confident that he will adapt to the intensity and demands of training and the Championship. We look forward to working with Victor and him continuing his footballing development with us".

That doesn't sound like someone being signed to play week in week out. Most people seemed quite happy with that until he scored a rocket of a goal and was suddenly expected to do that every week.

How worried we should be able an injury is very much dependent on what it is. There's a world of difference from saying give him a week or two as a precaution and he's got something that could keep him out for months.

I think Thorp, Collins and Kitching all went through relegation seasons with their clubs.
An interesting dynamic. How long it takes to adjust after that. Mentality wise.

? You can’t make the mildest comment on here without half a dozen accounts jumping on calling you negative.
Worth reminding people you are replying to a thread where the opening post states that he is expecting 'big things' of Torp and that, obviously, we all hope he is right.

But I think Fernando is on the money with the starting 3 assuming we aren't on the hunt for another Stamenic. There is still loads of time for him but when you factor in Palmer and I like the look of Andrews it's possible Torp might remain a bit of a squad player, more of the Kelly replacement than the star Hamer buy we perhaps first hoped.

I’d argue that he joined during his off season while being half way through our league season and was then thrown in very quickly because Sheaf got injured. It doesn’t surprise me that he struggled to keep some form.

I have to admit Andrews does look very good, be interesting to see if he makes the bench in the last couple of friendlies and the start of the season and if he does who misses out!
Yes. I thought it was a pity he didn't get some more minutes at the end if last season too. He looks similar in style to Boateng on the small amount I have seen of him so maybe that appointment will help him develop. I hope we leave a place on the bench for players like him, Obikwu or Dausch so they can get useful experience this season.

And Tavares who was the best of the lot.

I wish we could stop judging players like JDS & Tavares only on how they played against Man Utd.
There was many times Tavares couldn’t place a pass but then has a 20 min spell vs Utd where he did quite well against Utd and people now think he’s up to the job.
Julien Da Costa played well against Notts Forest once but I don’t base him on that one performance

I’d like to see more of him, it’s a real shame if he’s picked up a niggle just as we start playing friendlies.

I think we’re still short on quality but him and Eccles should be pushing for starts with Allen and/or Palmer as backup IMO.

Torp misses a pre season game and his career is over. This conversation would not be happening at all had that goal been allowed.
Yeh but doesn’t it piss you off how he doesn’t smile which must mean there’s a rift in the camp and he doesn’t fit in. Maybe, and I’m not just making up bollocks here, but maybe he misses home and he’s had an argument with robins and his days are numbered?

To be honest if he plays now and again to give one of the others a rest it would be helpful, I don't know if he'll ever be one of the first names on the team sheet but he's shown enough quality to be used from the bench when needed.

He could be particularly useful cover for Sheaf, but needs to get up to the pace and physicality of the championship.

Looks like some on here have already voted who will be next seasons 'boo boy'. No matter what Viktor does that's great, some are always going to find a reason to give him dogs abuse.

Omg, who the fuck, is saying he's the boo boy? I'm saying I can't see him getting ahead of Sheaf, Eccles or Rudoni.
Wtf don't you understand about that.

Jeez ffs!!!

I tell you what, let's just all agree he's nailed on to be the next Ballon D'or winner just to keep you happy.
