Can any of you name a Prem U23 of similar quality who went for less?

£1m ish is the going rate for a young player of potential championship standard. People seem to think you can collect young English players for peanuts.

Don't you rate him?

(Gyo not Ched Evans)

I thought he was showing signs of being very strong, physical and a real presence, we might have got ourselves a very good signing here

I’m not sure tbh. I was baffled by Robins’ decision to bring him in and then play Biamou over him. He showed flashes in the last few games but that may be because of the nature of those fixtures. There’s something there to work with for sure so will wait and see

Why are you obsessed with prem U23? Loads fail even at that age and tumble through the leagues. You yourself are even admitting hes probably not good enough by saying hes 'potential championship standard'. We paid about 750k for Walker who's currently way ahead of Gyokeres.

2 out on loan at Lincoln last season looked very good, Brennan Johnson who plays for Forest & Morgan Rogers at Man City. Much rather have someone like that on loan for a year then someone who couldn't get into the team ahead of an injured Biamou.

I don't think he was fully fit either & to play his style you probably need to be physically 100% or you have much less to offer

So two players that have never played at this level?

Can't help but feel that a million quid would go further on a CB or LWB than on a fourth-choice striker. Last year we got Hamer for a similar fee, but no-one's expecting anything like the same return from Gyokeres, even though they're the same age at the time of signing.

I'd (hope!) it's £250k-ish up front, + clauses. All our outgoing deals end up like this, so it'd be nice if we did similar!

Over someone whos played at this level and looked piss poor, Yes definitely.

If you think he was "piss poor" then I don't think you were watching the same player, or had massively warped expectations of a guy who wasn't even fully fit.

He’s hardly looked piss poor has he. What an over the top response

He really did, don't forget an injured Biamou kept him out of the team. Last 4 games or so, he looked alot better, but those teams were already sitting on the beach.

Strange how a lot on this forum see it differently to you

He wasn't fit. Its strange how you have totally written him off as piss poor, very strange.

I'd hope it was the same deal for Hamer. My point is, last season he was one of our best players, Gyokeres probably won't even be playing most weeks.

Obsessed? I’m just pointing out the going rate. You think Walker is better that’s fine but both are young players with limited Championship experience and high potential so will cost about the same.

Zlatan's not English m8.

Last I checked Brighton were an English club so will charge English prides for their young players.

It's not £1m, that's just Twitter bullshit!

I’d imagine it’s a £1m deal if he hits all the clauses in the contract. I’d imagine the upfront fee is anywhere from £250,000 to £500,000

Yep I stated this before. Little point in getting hung up on the fee as it's likely to be heavily clause based.

Equally, the fee itself is actually pretty reasonable for a striker of his age and background.
