Waggott Comment
Coventry City CEO Steve Waggott feels that the Sky Blues are stronger now the month of January has finished then when it began.
City have had Ryan Allsop, Josh McQuoid and Gary Madine return to the parent clubs but have signed Arron Martin on an eighteen month deal, Frank Nouble and Blair Turgott until the end of the season and taken Dominic Samuel, Samni Odelusi, Jamies Jones and Luke Williams on loans.
Writing in his notes in the programme for the Scunthorpe game, Mr Waggott wrote: "i completely understand the frustration from supporters at the way the season has panned out.
"I am not one to look to make excuses but it has been a really bitty season for a host of reasons, but we feel we have emerged from January stronger than when we entered it."

Yes we have emerged as more contenders to relegation than we were in December. Fantastic job, pleased for you Waggot, I really am...

:jerkit:

How fuckin dare you even mutter about you know our frustration your not a supporter for you and your cronies it's about money ,for us it's love you dick ,the fact is joy is never ever gonna be able to recoup said money face facts you have fucked up and lost it and the only bitty part of the season for you is when you have sucked on fishers tit, fuckin panned out? You can argue all day about whether it's stronger or not. His opinion and time will tell, there are other factors to our plight though not just the squad - manager, selections, tactics, formations so before you all get too far out of the pram o er his throwaway comments that you just love to criticise (although he gets moaned at if we don't hear from him) then perhaps we should reserve judgement and support the team. I don't think sp is capable but right now just like that playing squad,it is our lot, we are stuck with eachother and I don't want L2 for next season. PUSB

Very grounded Rob - but please SP, no more Willis at left back. Fed up of square pegs in round holes and all that. Play people in their proper positions.

This Is my view to a degree
I think If you feel It Its fair enough to pick out the owners with chants and to a degree Pressley at the right time
But not to destroy what are largely now a team50% made up of kids
Especially when 3 or 4 have literally played two games
They won't function In bearpit
If you feel so so frustrated Its better to stay away
I've probably only done two games In the last two months due to a massive disconnection however on those occasions like the other night I could never boo or abuse these kids
The problem Is It can become a self fulfilling prophesy

Don't boo but as Pressley is coaching any attacking intent out of them it's worth offering a few tips loudly during the play

Realistically, regarding our 1st team....we "own"..... Burge, Willis, Webster, Haynes, Martin, Johnson, Thomas, Fleck, O'Brien, Jackson, Barton, Philips, Nouble, Tudgay

That's 13 players.

Loans cant make us stronger in terms of value, only in terms of short term results, which haven't happened.

We are a League 2 Club waiting to happen.

You know I
know that's not definitive squad but seriously what are we paying to reach a total of £2.8M
60% of our turnover allegedly goes to fund the team
The Overall budget should be getting on for £5M

Turgott, Finch, Maddison, Charles-Cook, Swanson (still contracted for another year), Miller, there are probably a few other young players on professional contracts like G Thomas.

Also Pugh as well, kind of pointless but we're still paying his wages which is frustrating.

Turgott is on loan, maybe Maddison,, but Charles Cook shouldnt be part of out 1st team squad. Miller will be gone in the summer, as will Pugh. Also Johnson, Tudgay, Nouble, etc

well hes not wrong is he? i prefer the current squad to the one pre january.
McQuoid and Madine were two of our leading scorers. Both now gone. Nouble hasn't scored in how many games? Samuel has one. Reda is out for a month. Just who is going to score the goals to keep us in this league? Jackson? Tudgay?

Well I asked waggott to speak and he has.

A pile of garbage that when we are relegated he will forget he said

I think the squad is potentially better than pre January but the leader is the same and he is woeful

samuel has 1 in 3, not bad?
tudgay has 2 in 2 starts...very good?

reda being out means nothing, he was out pre jan alot too.

stop grapsing at straws, waggot said nothing wrong.

Turgott isn't on loan, he's on a short term permanent contract till the end of the season. I know not all the names I mentioned are part of the first team/in future plans but when your asking the question where the money is going like wingy did you have to include everyone on the wage bill regardless of whether they are contributing to the team or not. I was just being factually correct and whether you argue players like Charles-Cook/G Thomas etc. should or shouldn't be part of the squad is a different point, fact is they are on professional contracts and part of the squad and players we 'own'.

He's wrong. In January we got 5 points from 5 games = 1 point per game. In Feb we have 1 point from 2 games = 0.5 points per game. We're upping the tempo of descent.

Id prefer it if Waggot wasnt simply selecting dates to suit his comments. Wouldnt it be fairer to compare the team/squad we ended last season with and the one we have now. Is there anyone who thinks the one we have now is better?

What the squad that accumulated less than a point a game for 21 games?

I would say it worse when you consider the loss of experienced players. Having said that, once we lost Callum to injury and Clarke, we we pretty poor post Christams last season (Notts County and Peterborough away stick in my mind still). So over the last 12 months we are certainly no stronger - to me the Jaunary bit that SW refers to is missing the point. In the meantime SP was given a long contract - that's where the questoins need ot be asked; what is the strategy on building and sustaining a competitive squad?

in talking to a friend who purports to be in the know,
waggott has, since his elevation to his present post,
been entirely responsible for signings and departures,
thus, it is largely his current squad

Has been or has tried to be since he came here, one manager stood up to him then left. I believe he has a number of agents, contacts etc, looking for certain type of short term signings and loans to fill gaps. Players such as Tudgay Turbott and one or two others are just using us as a shop window and will move on in the summer as did Madine recently and Marshall last season.

I have been questioning Steve Waggotts role at the club for some time on here. I have suspected he is a big part of the problem when it comes to the players we have brought in, if not fully responsible for the players brought in?

End of Dec 26pts & -7 GD 3pts clear of the relegation zone
End of Jan 31pts & -10 GD 3pts clear still. The key difference being 3 below us have a game in hand - two of them will go above us if they win them.
The table never lies Mr Waggott...but I can't fault your optimism that continually unsettling the side with loanees & short term contract will be a fruitfulness policy - only because the reverse has barely ever worked for us over the last 20yrs though!
