Current Blades boss set to beat off strong managerial competition
Gary Speed is expected to be announced as the new Wales manager at a 2pm press conference on Tuesday.
Representatives from the Football Associationof Wales met with the Sheffield United boss on Monday, before announcing the media briefing for Tuesday afternoon.
Talks with the former Wales skipper are understood to have gone well, with an announcement to rubber-stamp his appointment due after a meeting of the FAW's ruling council in Cardiff.
Despite a less-than-impressive start to his rookie managerial career, Speed, the most-capped outfield player in Welsh history, looks to have seen off strong competition for the job.
It is understood Chris Coleman, John Hartson, Brian Flynn and Lars Lagerback were all interviewed last week.
Speed will take on the job of lifting a Welsh side who currently sit bottom of their Euro 2012 qualification group, having lost all three games so far.
His first match competitive match in charge will be the Millennium Stadium meeting with Fabio Capello's England in March next year.
