Wasps downward spiral... (12 Viewers)

I had a quick look on twitter the other day. Majority of people moaning the down have the fan village and other entertainment anymore. Almost like that is more important than what's going on, on the pitch.

I think it’s always been more about the drink than the game, they will say stuff like having a couple of pints at Wasps and then nothing about the game.

Onceawasp still don’t get it. We still dislike our owners, we protested to get them to keep us in Coventry - something they have now done, if an opportunity for better owners comes about then I’m sure we’ll all get behind it, and yeah they did boot us out.

also the fickleness comment got me… this coming from a team who’s lost thousands of fans because let’s face it, they’re shit

in a sport where, going by this thread, it appears supporters routinely switch teams. The irony of it.

Pretty sure that's been said since the start.

Just three days before Wasps and Gloucester served up a nine-try, 68-point thriller, Coventry City were held to a goalless draw by local rivals Birmingham City at the same venue before 22,676 spectators.

Check that spin out. Boring boring football getting more fans, who would have thought it.

Gravy train has stopped.

It's interesting that the telegraph narrative is shifting.

Either the PR budget is drying up or they're preparing the ground for something.

There is now a bit of a negative feedback on the forums as well. Some saying Coventry is too far and they won’t be going back - the council have invested a lot into this project and are going to look ridiculous if it fails

Funny ain’t it…

still where does this notion that they make more money when we have more fans come from?

surely we pay a flat rate for renting it and Delaware pick up the food and beverage profits?

that appears to their only gloating come back

That Shugs is like Comical Ali with his unwavering propaganda.

Swap " I see no tanks" with tanks in the background with, " We have loads of fans" with swathes of empty seats behind him.

There big home game with Munster next Saturday is also in doubt as Munster stuck in South Africa with a lot of there squad and backroom staff contacting covid , even less money coming in if it gets cancelled!

Trinity Mirror were surely being paid to promote Wasps, doesn't look so any more, Cov RFC never got mentioned last couple of years, it doesn't look good for Wasp now, even there loyal fans on their forum saying there not going again, some even going to Saracens which makes it even more shambolic.

People aren't going because of a small marketing team?

Maybe they don't have a marketing team to pretend anybody gives a shit.

Something has obviously happened in the background. They stopped giving them wall to wall coverage when all the adverting stopped but now they've gone from just not really bothering about them much to daily articles about how shit things are.

Chap commenting isn't wrong though. Its exactly what many on here were saying when they first turned up. The huge number of free tickets completely devalued the product.

The funny thing is I think the latter two reasons listed probably would be a factor if you're not a die hard Wasps fan and are pondering whether to go up to a game or not, which is exactly their problem.
They still don't have a hardcore/loyal fan base established in the city who are going to turn up week in week out regardless of any of these issues whereas Coventry City does

Anybody who I know who went said 2 things.

"Free Ticket"
"You can have a beer at your seat"

So yeah, no free ticket and cold weather and people don't want to know.

I said at the time when they were putting on theme parks and stuff at games that people will just want to go for that and when it's not on they wont be bothered about the Rugby.

Whenever this has been mentioned it has always been "bitter football fans", now look.

The council has gradually distanced itself from it over the last few years

Yes very quiet lately, probably hate it we're doing so well!
At least they had the decency to lower the flag at half mast at the council house yesterday in honour of JS!

They must have the same person working on that who is working on building the hotel that had to be rushed through planning so it was ready for city of culture.

What is the relationship between the Telegraph and the Council??
Kind of loaded question I think as we know the direction of the pro wasps/anti sisu narrative from them previously - obvious background leaning here!!

Reason I say this is because I have been told (from the same source that told me way before the club left the city first time around that the council/Wasps were in dialogue) that CCC are "no longer working with Wasps".... (don't like to dig too much and have been told in past "I can't tell you any more")

I'm guessing that they are pissed that Wasps/City did a deal (we know how spiteful CCC can be!)

Reason I ask this is because I was told that they (CCC) are now working closely with Cov Rugby to develop the Butt's and surrounding area!!!!!!!! (Anybody else have anything on this!??)

Could this be a reason for the Telegraph's change of narrative towards Wasps!!??!!....

I would love for Wasps, and everyone else in any sport for that matter, to have to report attendances as actual attendance (not counting season ticket holders who haven't shown up), paid attendance and ticket revenue.

Sorry Chief, I'm over 6 years late with this response, but it's around 5,000 mate (y):sneaky:

Priceless absolutely priceless. I supported the City for over 50 years and never once through the highs and the many lows have I thought to praise or blame the marketing team. In fact for the first 30 odd years I probably didn’t even know we had a marketing team. But now if we lose, go on a bad run and drop a few thousand off the gate it will be those dastardly marketing peoples fault. Not sisu, not robins, not the team….but the marketing team. You learn something every day
