We Took The Ricoh for Granted (1 Viewer)

I walked past the Ricoh on Saturday evening and stopped and stared at it for a while, and I got that feeling you can get when you bump into an ex girlfriend, and you look at her and think bloody hell why didn't I treat you better,as your really attractive and a bit of a stunner. So if we do get back together,us and the Ricoh that is,let's treat it a bit better and fill it our more, and be proud it's our home !

I walked past Sixfields the other day, and you know that feeling you get when you are in relationship with someone that you have never fancied at all.............

I was just messing. And don't get me wrong, if I lived in Cov I would undoubtedly feel the same. I live in Northampton though and do pass Sixfields on a regular basis.

Edit: turns out that my response was the 3rd post - anyway not to worry

felt like that at the start of the march looking up king Richard st at houses the other saturday ,never felt any passion for the ricoh, more to do with the shite that's gone on with the club since leaving HR and me, in me head ,blaming the move,.i do agree tho it should be our home and we should be playing there ,and any talk of a new ground in the Coventry area rattles me .

If we're going for this rather bizarre analogy.....then I'd put it a little like this:

The love of my life was involved in a car crash in 2003 & never really recovered.....after 2 further years of heartbreak knowing she was going to die, she finally passed away in 2005.
Me & 23,362 others gave her a cracking send off.

Looking back, I was probably on the rebound but I met another soon after who was definitely more pretty....but when you looked closely, she was all a bit fake & plastic....she didn't appear to have any depth or any soul....

...anyway....I dated her for a bit, but my heart wasn't in it....she was very dull & boring, yet also high maintenance...especially as she never even carried any cash & I was forever waiting around for her....stupid bitch.....

If I ever meet her again, I'll probably still fuck her....but I'll never love her.

On my way to the march walking down Thackhall Street it was weird seeing all those flats where the ground used to be.We should never have moved but we did but look at the mess we're in now.But I'd be back at the Ricoh in a flash given the chance,as it's our football stadium and I do miss it.

Yep, the five-to-two-er that you picked up in a moment of madness after a few too many in a night club. Then you wake up with a dry mouth and a banging headache and, looking at the moose next to you, wonder why you bothered.

In the analogy, you wish you'd just gone to the chippy for a kebab. As far as Sixfields is concerned, most of us are still going to the chippy.

A fabulous stadium that our owners thought they could steal. It belongs to the people of Coventry, like the Football Club does. Do your worst SISU. You'll never break the resolve of Coventrians, so just F**k off and "Do one"

I wouldnt give a shit if the Ricoh was a ten pinter, she was ours!!

She wasn't. Sticking with bad analogies, she was a high class hooker we were forced into shagging. And whilst the sex was good, she took all our money we earned and didn't give fook all back. Fucking slag.

It belongs to a private company on leasehold tenure. The people of Coventry can access it if they're invited or pay.

First time I ever went into the Ricoh the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I thought it was a wonderful stadium.

I still think the same and every time I drive past I always think just how grand it looks.

Highfield road is your first shag - however good or bad it was, it always seems the best
Ricoh is the wife - you get used to her, and take her a bit for granted, even if the excitement is not always there
Sixfields is the STD - you didnt want it, you dont want it, but cant get rid of it

Shit! The council took the gate receipts, advertising, car parking, merchandise income, TV money and transfer fees as well?! Bastards!

If only we'd had that £100k/year! DAMN YOU COVENTRY COUNCIL!!! WE WOULD'VE BEEN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS BY NOW! OUR LOSSES WERE EXACTLY THE AMOUNT OF THE RICOH RENT + F&B AND NOT A PENNY MORE!

Oh wait. That's complete bollocks. We blew all our cash on bad signings and even worse management decisions (like selling off all the revenue). But hey, let's not let facts get in the way of a good rant, eh?

This thread is brilliant about time we tried to lighten the mood a little on here.

OP is bang on though we do need to make it feel more like home if we ever return, I for one would love it if we could have home fans either side of the away section ( put netting in between if so bothered / segregate a little) but never any problem when we go away with minimal segregation at other grounds.

I think this would help atmosphere wise.

Plus I am sorry but we must be hitting 15K plus after all this arguing / bickering / fighting / falling out/ begging / crying/ moaning about returning home... otherwise what would it of been for.

People complaining all the time but truthfully if we ever return.. get your arses up there!.. some will say oh we lost x amount now.. seriously one game upon the return and their be back! It never leaves you!

A bit like Sixfields belongs to the Council we sub let it off NTFC get no match day costs employ no local people but hay hope you lot are happy there.

The quicker we can get a divorce the better shouldn't be too hard most of us are living apart from her now..

Be no problem with most of us getting up there however every week we are in Northampton we lose some more fans, will be lucky to get 10,000 up there we are dying very quickly.

Take me Home Ricoh,
To the place I belong,
Block 16,
At the Ricoh,
Take me home Ricoh.

Good to see my post got things going a bit on here.Just look at the Ricoh as the father longing for his prodigal son to return back home if the woman analogy is a bit wacky.Just let's get back home, fill the place for a while and then get a decent crowd in on a regular basis,as we all want it now to end all of this nonsense.

I would say the Ricoh is like a celebrity you have been constantly stalking for a number of years.

Now though there is a restaining order on you and you can't go with 50 ft of her without going through the courts first. :(

Problem is you went to a coventry hooker. Should have gone to Nottingham, Ipswich or Swansea. The pimps there practically offer you a luxury service free of charge. In coventry you pay a fortune and you don't even get offered a coke afterwards unless you pay more.

Such a pity some people have lost the respect and pride in the City they were born, and are willing to let outsiders dictate where and when we get to watch our football team play games...Now that! is "Bollocks"

I appreciate this will upset a few but I actually hated the Ricoh.

1. It's financially f*cked us
2. We don't own it
3. We've always been quite sh*t there
4. Pain in the arse to get to, especially if coming in from the train
5. The atmosphere is awful
6. Seeing hoardes of empty seats was demoralising

Give me cheeky old Highfield Road (the right size, the right location and a bit of footballing soul) and a Saturday afternoon over the Ricoh 10 times out of 10.

Of course I'd rather be playing there instead of anyway outside of Coventry but it's a just another copy-a-bowl that generates little enjoyment.

As for this "taking the Ricoh for granted" bollocks, it's a bloody football stadium. We went there, watched a game, came home and done the same thing another 20 odd times a year.

Did you want me to wipe my seat after every use, pay it compliments and take the thing out for dinner every week?

1. It's financially f*cked us -True. That's the previous owners fault though not the Ricoh's.
2. We don't own it
3. We've always been quite sh*t there - That's because we have been shit not because of the stadium.
4. Pain in the arse to get to, especially if coming in from the train -Further for me to travel than to HR, but dead easy to get to I would say. Train station obviously still to be completed. Once in place there can be no complaints.
5. The atmosphere is awful - Atmosphere no worse than HR when we were shit at HR.
6. Seeing hoardes of empty seats was demoralising
