Herford Street is one of the worst streets of any city centre of the UK, and I've seen some bad ones. Why spend money on opening it up to broadgate rather than spend money on demolishing the whole thing and starting again ?

That's exactly what's going to happen. The link was opened up ahead of the wholesale redevelopment. Most units are on short-term lease and there will be CPOs issued in the near future. One side of Hertford Street will be flattened and rebuilt, the roof will go and the street will be returned to a single level. Not before time, it is grim.

Well, they were planning that but City Centre South or whatever it's called won't happen.

Any serious demolition and rebuild won't happen till the City of Culture year is over.

I used to go to the bull and get to kickoff ok but it’s not about having a single pub then to the ground it’s about going to a couple on the way, seeing the crowd and atmosphere building up in each one while you pick friends up.

Totally agree. I'm no fan of the Ricoh, and although the B&A is a decent enough place to have a drink, it's hardly your archetypal football boozer. I do think people overstate the 'lack of pubs' line though. There are plenty of options, even if they don't provide the sort of experience you get at the Roost.

Anyway, we're back at the Ricoh soon. January latest.

Ah man, I immediately regretted posting that and was just about to edit it. I can't say too much, just that it was all agreed weeks ago. Certain contractual issues meant we had to delay the date. Of course, if it doesn't happen then you're more than welcome to call me a c-unit, but I'm assured it's happening. Might be December, certainly Jan.

Mate, I appreciate if you've put it up it's in good faith and if it doesn't happen you weren't just bullshitting for the sake of it.
I don't work many weekends anymore but I'm in today and invariably doing very little and generally pissing about on here so if you post something I'll see it before an edit is possible!

Makes no difference to me. I love the shops there, the places to eat and drink.
Hmmm....not so sure, Torch. You couldn't have been there when it is really dead. There is then usually only Sgt. Bilko's Emporium open. That and the vegan shop.

Like Clint said you’ve posted it in good faith, and usually you’re pretty near the mark, so thanks for the honesty whether it transpires or not.

Wrong location for it. Would love them to turn BHS into a similar thing with an indoor street food market.
Funnily enough, I said the exact same thing.

I am considering putting something on at the Box there, but it's the surrounding area that bothers me somewhat.

Your not known to spread crap so I wouldn’t worry about that

It would be a massive wasps climb down so that’s what I struggle with logically.

I’ve been told something similar and it’s around naming rights as the dispute is tarnishing the wasps brand - I could see that in theory if we were a championship club but given the two factions are so against each other it would seem a huge U Turn from a towering ego

You’re in for it now.

any idea on the length of the deal? Hopefully there are guarantees on the pitch.

If it happens the ticket office staff deserve a bonus with all the upheaval they’ve dealt with this year.

Let's hope it is indeed a massive climb down.

I know, schoolboy error on my part.

I know nothing on the nature of the deal, only that there is one and that it's all set for Jan. The problem I have is that a few on here know who I am and will therefore know exactly where this came from so I can't share details. I'm saying nothing more, not least because, despite being sure that this deal is in place, there is always the chance one of the usual suspects will come along at the last minute and scupper it. Hopefully nothing like that happens and it all goes through as planned.

Ferret just pm’d me and said it’s a 4 year deal for 20 quid a year but we have to play in slippers to keep the pitch.

No there really isn’t... there’s about 3 decent places.

But as I said, it’s a £5 train journey to Birmingham and back to get all of this on a bigger scale. The shopping centre is great and you can make a day of it. Broad street alone has better and more bars than the whole of Coventry

Growing up in Coventry was literally going on the same route every Saturday night. But there is no other reason to go to the city centre
God the Coventry public's negativity is depressing.
Old pubs wise in the you've got Shakespeare, Gatehouse Tavern and Town Wall Tavern which are all nice pubs with good beer and clientele
Then you've got the new bars like Botanist, Cosy Club, Slug and Lettuce, Bayley Lane and then the Indian street food place just opened in the old Chattaways
Other established places like Drapers, Phoenix, Ivy House, Castle Grounds, The Squirrel
Plenty of places to go

It's going to be a battle of who blinked first isn't it, perhaps that's why Boddy was so fastidious in telling the press any discussions with Wasps were not necessarily about moving back

Fucking hell, if you are saying that people must be being extra negative.
