You'd have to say if we can't beat Brum at home, and Middlesbrough who will have an eye on the playoffs then, we probably don't deserve to be in them, so as long as nobody can overtake us if we win both, that's all good.

Chances are we'd have to beat Middlesbrough to go up, anyway(!)

Means we’re relying on an extra result but we can still be guaranteed a play-off spot with a win next Saturday IF:

Millwall lose away at Blackpool
Blackburn lose at home to Burnley and away at Luton (draw would mean we aren’t in mathematically but would basically be in as we +12 GD over Blackburn)
Preston don’t win away at Sheffield United
West Brom lose away at Sheffield United and don’t beat Norwich at home.

To be honest this ain't a terrible result is it ?

Wet Brom winning would be better as Sunderland gave every chance of winning their next 2 games and have a good goal difference

It is going to be very tough to clinch next weekend.

All we can do is win and hope on last day results don't mean we need a win Vs boro

Just concentrate on beating the noses , go at them and we're too good for them, be cagey and it plays into their hands

Let them finish 5th. Then you'd have us vs Luton and them vs Boro.....

Could be a challenge for the Police in the North East :)

Mowbray doing an anti-Mowbray.

To be fair they've done really well to be in contention after losing Stewart and Simms.

It needs to be in our own hands which hopefully it will be after Wednesday

If we then don't finish top 6 we can only blame ourselves

I think it will pan out that it will be in our own hands. The players then do not need any motivation, win the next two games and you'll get into the play offs!

Great result. Let’s face it if we should be winning the next 2 if we actually believe we would have a chance in the playoffs

So you would prefer WBA to be above us with a game in hand?

yes because it elimates Sunderland if we beat Birmingham and West Brom have had zero consistency

Still think we are holding our destiny to an extent; it’s just absolutely massively important that we beat Birmingham. Which is entirely doable.

We can’t account for the last game of the season at this point, things look look so different by next Sunday.

Wrap Gyokeres and Hamer in cotton wool this week and get a bumper crows in positive spirits for Saturday.

Also, wouldn’t mind Sunderland in the play offs, on paper they are very beatable.

We have to win v Birmingham and get a result regardless of today’s result. It’s the business end of the season.

Blackburn have a difficult run-in as does WBA. Millwall ought to beat Blackpool but it’s not a given and play Blackburn on the final day so someone is dropping points. Watford and PNE are not “easy” games for Sunderland at all.

With our GD, I think we’ll make the playoffs in either 5th/6th place. We’ve lost once in 13 games. It’s all up for grabs and it’s exciting!

Sunderland are still a point behind us. They have to go to Preston still.

Preston are away to Sheffield United next. If they get a result against them they will be playing Sunderland for a spot in the playoffs....if the rest of the games go to plan. But even that isn't happening at the moment.

If we beat Birmingham Preston can't catch us

Cant shake the feeling this isn’t our year and well either just miss out on the last day or lose the semi (if we go to Wembley we win IMO). We’ve always been a season behind Luton and I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost the semi then finish 3rd/4th next season and go up.

A million to 1 Burnley get points deducted .
While I probably agree what a chance the EFL have to flex their weak muscles knocking two or three points off the Burnley total won’t effect their promotion or their title but will shows other don’t do the same or else, their other punishment could be a fine which when you take in the millions of prem money slushing into their coffers won’t do a lot.
From the point of view of the strugglers I’d think they will be onto the EFL big time.

Cov - Sunderland play off final
With all that’s gone on in recent years between us is that written in the stars I ask, odd results, last kick of the match goalkeeper equaliser goal and last minute own goal equaliser for PNE by a player who should be here makes you wonder doesn’t it.

We've done even better to be in contention with half our midfield out injured for half the season basically.

Amazing to think we are potentially 5 wins from the premier league. After all we’ve been through. Robins really is a fucking hero. Even if we don’t make it this year, I think it sets us up for a great year next year. C’mon you Sky Blues.

You wouldn’t, bet you are a wonderful encouragement at home.

It would do if our best players were likely to stay.

It's now in our hands after that result.
