I looked at this earlier today. The natural thinking would being a draw the best result. However, I thought it best if WBA had won. Sunderland win is the worst of the three options in my view.

It's now in our hands after that result.

It's not completely, these are the maximums

Coventry 72
Blackburn 74
WBA 72 (likely the same points tie breaker would favour WBA)

I know the above scenario is unlikely.

Hopefully Blackburn and WBA both drop points in midweek.

Sunderland are now in a very good situation with their two remaining games.

As are we ? Using everybody's logic on here boro won't be arsed , like Luton v blackburn and will rest their team and field their u21s

It’s not quite yet is it (at least in terms of points) with the games in hand of Blackburn and West Brom (if West Brom make up the 2 goal goal difference deficit).
Technically it is in our hands then, as if we win by the right margin compared to West Brom, we're alright.

tbf two 10-0 wins ought to do it.

So it is in our hands then? We have to better West Broms goal difference and we're 2 ahead as it stands.

My main worry would be whether we can hoy shit at them in a wembley setup - easy enough when you are sat above them but this would be a real test imo

While I probably agree what a chance the EFL have to flex their weak muscles knocking two or three points off the Burnley total won’t effect their promotion or their title but will shows other don’t do the same or else, their other punishment could be a fine which when you take in the millions of prem money slushing into their coffers won’t do a lot.
From the point of view of the strugglers I’d think they will be onto the EFL big time.
Personally I think a team should be able to field whichever players are on their books they like.

It's always a lottery. We could play a team with all their first teamers available but a close rival play them a few weeks later with a few missing due to injury and suspension.

What if you look at a player and, even if they're not actually injured, you're worried that they need a rest or they could well get an injury? If the club doctor/physio says it would be in their best interest to not play, who are the EFL to overrule them? What if you think players won't be able to do two games in quick succession and rest them for one? What if you have a youngster you think deserves some first team experience in a game with less pressure to aid their development?

I reckon if you took it to court it would be totally unenforceable. Clubs could even argue that the EFL are risking the health and fitness of players by insisting picking the strongest team available.

Forecasting based on predicting future results is a mug's game. Millwall 0 Birmingham 1 anybody. Complete collapse of relegated Premioership teams Watford and Norwich.

The key driver imho is purely games to be played, because at this level you must expect contenders to win every game even if they don't or can't because they are playing other rivals. So as WBA had the most games in hand, a Sunderland win was the best outcome as it partly nullified WBA's advantage.

We cannot expect to go up without getting at least something from Middlesbrough, who may not field a full strength team.

So playing sheffield United when they could get promoted in that game isn't factored in?

Cant shake the feeling this isn’t our year and well either just miss out on the last day or lose the semi (if we go to Wembley we win IMO). We’ve always been a season behind Luton and I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost the semi then finish 3rd/4th next season and go up.
To be fair it's already been our year , Wasps and sisu are fucked off , new owner has given us back our club and the lads on the pitch have given us hope
If we make the playoffs it's an added bonus

Hopefully Boro will be resting players against us too

They'd be mad not to and they have every right to use their squad as they see fit. Hope they are prepared for the Sunderland backlash for the next century though.

Imagine if they let us win just so Sunderland didn’t make playoffs
