This is a thinly veiled sulk thread I think but I'll bite. Don't see that it needs to be a play off place. Under MR I lost count of the "next season" "rebuilding" "gelling" comments. Top ten this year given some of the pish that MR bought in last 18 months. Thereafter pushing for play offs every season is the new standard

So doesn’t the new manager get any gelling in time?
Seeing as the team, that is virtually the same as last year has been allowed the leeway to have?
So that’s a 10 game free hit surely, whilst he gels with the team & set up?

Exactly

There's already people making excuses for next season, let alone this one! Heard people saying how hard the championship will be next season with Prem clubs being relegated and that is unrealistic to assume a new manager will be pushing for promotion next year, its crazy.

People were doing that under MR and countless other managers.

You may.

It's been reported in a number of places.
Such as capology. (To name just one)

Although I believe they can't always be trusted, for example, I've been aware that Binks was on £30k a week before we signed him and we agreed to continue to pay him that as there was no big fee involved.

I've also been made aware that Dovin's wages demands were exceptionally high, and the transfer fee was negotiated down to allow us to come to an agreement over his wages.
Which explains the delay in completing his transfer. (His wages are allegedly far higher than detailed by Capology)
In what other profession would employee salaries be available freely online?

Think we have to look at next season really , ofcourse magic might happen this year and if it does great but realistically we just need to set some really solid foundations to carry us into next season

Some of the mental gymnastics and double standards on here are great.

Quite. People who always urged patience and claimed we were rebuilding every season now wanting instant success. Utter nonsense based on nostalgia and emotion. The success of the club is more important than whether you like the new manager. I think people just see FL as too big time. They will be throwing rocks at the moon later

expectation is play offs but there shouldn’t be a meltdown if we don’t, robins has had 3 seasons and 45 million, give Lampard the same budget and see how he gets on, pretty sure he wouldn’t be getting players off Barnsley. Huddersfield and Peterborough

If Dowie can do it, anyone can.

Got to give Frank a bit of time to get to know the squad, his philosophy to download to them and to get into a flow. He will then know where the gaps are and he’ll want to bring a few more bodies in and ship some out. This season if we do something special it’s a bonus.

What, 10 points away with 29 games to go? Utter nonsense

I don't think it will happen but it's definitely nothing to write off

Its not just the gap, it's the total points. We'd need 57 from 29 games to get to the magic 74 point mark, your talking 18 wins, 3 draws and 6 wins or the form of the equivalent of finishing on 90 points over a season.

Forest did it in 2021/22, they had 22 points after 17 games and finished on 80 points (by comparison to us today they would've finished on 75 points and would have finished either 4th or 5th with 75 points with their GD )

Yes agree it is unlikely but we shouldn't write it off and nor should the players

In that case basically every team in the league should be aiming for the top 6. Fact is it’s nearly December and despite sitting just above the bottom 3 people don’t see the danger.

Lampard himself said there’s a reason why we are where we are and he needs to work out what it is.

Any public sector one TBF.

Sorry once you start doing this you’ve lost your point. People did it all season we made the playoffs to claim it was impossible.

Models are models they aren’t the real world.

We had 2-3 games in hand the season we got into the play offs and we're in a false position, after 17 games that season we had 23 points, and 2-3 games in hand. We had a 6 point head start of where we are now.

We also had the two best players in the division in Hamer and Gyokeres, and weren't shipping in 2 goals a game.

Let's see where we are end of Feb /March time, and if we're in touching distance then you we can re-evaluated. i just don't see the point of setting the expectation of playing offs for a new manager given this starting point, and still 6-7 games until we get to the transfer window.

Not a chance Binks is on £30k a week, come on!
The club accounts show nearly all expenditure is on wages and salaries, in the last published accounts the turnover was £20.4 million, salaries & pensions etc. accounted for £18.5million.

Im talking about t he end of the season. People like you, possibly even you yourself, we’re er re coming on here with Six games to go making average points posts about how it was impossible.

It’s a shit model. Every season is different. Play what’s in front of you.

You reckon we spend c. 10% of that amount on Luis Binks' wages? That sounds like Tin Hat levels of critical thinking to me.
I don't know what the players are on I never said anything, other people did.

Those accounts are from companies house and audited but include all employees, it is an overall total and covers the period for the year ended 31st May 2023.

I don't see where you get the tin hat reference from.

Indeed. And what we’re playing with now is a team just above the relegation zone with still most fans expecting to finish in the top 10.

Based on what?

Based on the fact we’ve been totally outplayed twice this season and once was with an interim fitness coach as manager.

Chicken Littles on here forget how tight the Championship is. A run of four wins and you’re top eight. A run of four losses and you’re bottom six.

People who bash on about average PPG forget what an average is. Most teams don’t perform at one level all season and a lot of playoff teams mix autos and relegation form. Looking at an average at the end of the season hides all that and skews your perceptions mid season.

You look at the first fifteen games and say “how could we ever average so high??” But if we did you’d just throw it in as the ppg that season and make the same claim next year.

We were only 3 points off play offs switch 6 to go. We were the team in form, I thought we would finish top 6 at that point.

Its not a shit model, we know from league tables that 6th place is always around 73-75 points every season. Occasion it's slightly lower but not often. So whilst form and ppg ebbs and flows, the end goal is virtually always the same.

I hope we get top six, I expect us to get top 10 and that will require promotion form from now on.

We have looked terrible far more often than those two games and more than one manager has said our players are picking and choosing their performance.

You yourself said of them, and I quote, ‘spineless fucking pussies’. Yet you think talk of a relegation battle is out of the question. Pick a side

It is a shit model. Each season is different and plays out differently. At the end of the day it’s where you are at the end. You’re completely ignoring my point about how averages are made up and treating them like teams must get exactly 2PPG every game or they’re off target.

We are in a very tight streaky league. It’s form that matters.
