What do we still need? (5 Viewers)

Tough signing this CF. We know Simms, and then most possibly Wright will be the CF of choice next season (and not forgetting Tavares) so we need to bring in someone who's not expecting to start, but at the same time can step up when needed. Ntelo seems a good fit for this role, has pace and is direct.
Like I've said also , the model is to still bring in players to improve and replace when the big stars get sold .
It's the pragmatic way to building a squad for now and the future

The same bedwetters who rattle on about the 'Brighton model' or the 'Brentford model' are the first ones to complain that every prospective signing does not look like the finished article

Maybe it’s just me but it seems well regarded on here that we’re going down that route of buying players and training them up in order to turn a profit. Yes prospective signings are not going to be the finished article but you’d expect some sort of “article” at least, from Ntelo I’ve yet to see anything that suggests he’s a standout above any other £1-2 mil striker. The scouts know best of course, but this is a forum and that’s my view on him, I don’t think he’s shit, I’m just feel a bit meh towards him 🤷🏻‍♂️

You've yet to see (from seeing a clip on YouTube) compared with a scout that has actually watched him play

Patience is what most of us need.
But some need a big pair of rubber pants 😂

Desperate for that additional midfielder now - sheaf and torp down (torp seems to pick up niggles, hopefully settle down)

biggest priority now.

Really not sold on Ntelo tbh, stats aren’t exactly amazing for a league that’s very poor and I haven’t seen anything from any highlight reels that screams raw talent, just seems to fall over a lot. It could just be me being a pessimistic old fart but I’m really not sure why people always seem to rate the first thing we get linked with.
You could of said the same about Gyokeres.
He did nothing at Brighton, couldn't get into a poor Swansea side, didn't score here when he first broke into the team, and yet is now valued at £85million.

Talent scouts look at a players potential, has he got the basic traits, strength, power, pace, awareness, determination, has he got good work ethics etc etc etc, and most importantly, can he be improved.

And most importantly from Doug King's point of view, can we increase his value and potentially make a profit.

That's why we arnt just buying players that are already proven at this level, and recently we've got more signings right than wrong.

Trust the process.

The injuries mounting up do show the frailty of the squad. Reinforces to me that we need another CB and CM.

I have been an advocate for a new forward but wondering if Obikwu can perform that role.

Why buy someone a bit older and more experienced that in effect will hold him back. Need to see how he performs if given the opportunity against the bigger teams now coming up in preseason.

May need to consider if we need more forward cover in the wider positions now with Wright and Tavares carrying knocks which is limiting getting game time into their legs

It depends if we’re serious about promotion or not - a new forward is a bigger priority than a CB.

Yeah I know what you mean and I’m not saying Ntelo will be shit, I’m just saying for me personally the jury’s out.

As for Gyokeres, although he didn’t score any goals that season, at least he was having experience playing in the championship with Swansea during the 20/21 season and it was perhaps easier to assess whether he was up to standard or not. With Ntelo, there’s so few highlights and stats and also the fact he’s playing in the Bulgarian league means it’s hard to assess how good he is/isn’t, hence why the jury’s out for me.

Are we limited now on overseas signings, was reading that there are four ESC slots available, per club which can used for players who would not otherwise qualify for a work permit under the new post-Brexit rules.
So for us is the MVE, Wright, Sakamoto and Dovin?
If so can we get any more overseas players?

Wright would have qualified wouldn't he as hes played international for USA?

So maybe we have one slot available then? Dovin was born in England, so not sure if that helps. Just something that struck me whist ponndering if we could hijack Blackburns transfer of Yuki Ohasi

Just wondering if anyone’s thoughts have changed since the injuries last night? Who do we still need if we’re to aim for promotion?

Personally think we really need another CM, ST, maybe CB (and obviously would still love a RB or LB), I doubt we’ll see more than 3 signings though?
