And Jimmy, for me it's nothing to do with the 'Sky tv generation' it's seeing (albeit relatively few) good times playing some of the best teams in the country and having some of the best players, to now. Which don't get me wrong, I love a goal and a win, but quite frankly it's shit. We would not be sharing a ground in Northampton if we had never been relegated.

It wasn't a dig at you hill83....merely the observation that, these days, there appear to be many fans happy to accept just being in the company of the big teams at the expense of winning or even trying to win anything....

....the way the lesser PL clubs effectively throw the early rounds of the FA & League Cups in an often doomed attempt to preserve their PL status is ludicrous.....but many fans accept it saying dumb shit like..."ooh..well staying in the PL means we get another £60m"....Aaaarghhhh

Fair enough.

What if then, for example, during the Jimmy Hill era we only won the FA Cup and never got to Division 1. I'd say we would have never even been in the position to win the cup 20 years later. The Cup is a day out, promotion is an ambition and building something for the future.

Lets be honest we have not a chance of winning the FA Cup so promotion via the playoffs/Wembley final.

Well this was just meant to be a simple question, which several people have over complicated!

I didnt ask if we had a chance to win the cup (which btw everyone has), I just asked would you prefer promotion or an FA Cup win?

But while we are on it, I would take an FA Cup win and relegation over survival and no cup run. I bet most Wigan fans would say that as well.

I'm shocked people would even consider choosing promotion from league 1 over the FA Cup. FA Cup every day of the century for me, if we were talking about promotion to the premier league then it would be a much more difficult choice and I would be probably choose promotion to the premier league but we're not talking about.

Cup match's for teams in our predicament are a distraction we can well do without. We have no chance of winning
the Cup, but we do have chances of having vital players from our wafer thin squad injured.

Two promotions from now and then think of Cup glory.

Lets go a step further and consider the benefits /problems either of these scenarios would bring to the club/Owners rather than just our euphoria should either happen.

Would it bring a personal dilemna whether to attend In either case?

When I was growing up there were two must win trophies in England. League Champions (top division) and the FA Cup.

Sorry but promotion by the back door from the third tier didn't feature in the esteem stakes.

I think nationally we will get more recognition/sponsorship/revenue from winning the FA cup, which would be great.

But winning league 1 or promotion from league 1, no one will care other than us

Promotion all day long, top flight football, the premier league, we dont get out of this league we never get to that one.
We may never get there again, but while were where we are its guaranteed we wont.
A good cup run would be nice, bollox fuck that i want promotion.

Prospective buyer's would be more interested in a Championship Club--It's only one step from the money
laden Premiership.

Either way the squad needs a serious influx of players in this transfer window,by that I mean some experienced
players who know their way around.

Fully agreed. I just meant a league 1 team winning the fa cup would be huge news. But I'd rather get promoted too

As the options are 'win the FA cup' (never ever ever ever ever going to happen) or 'league one promotion' (very difficult but at least achievable). My choice would be 'league one promotion'.

Well as there are rules re playing in the right Category Stadium, which Sixfields would not be, they would have to move to a better ground to play in the Europa league, so they would have to play somewhere.

Hold on reality check....why am i answering seriously....................
