I just don't want to be in the situation we were in just as SISU were taking over. It's just foolish to believe that throwing money at something will work. All this speculate to accumulate is risk after risk, and it rarely works. We need to have a long term vision and be patient.
What on earth do you mean before Sisu took over? Our losses have increased since they took over!
This is like the Tories FFS! Sisu have NOT got a hold of our finances, they've been more profligate than most. They specualted as much as anyone and failed miserably. Just because they keep talking about costs doesn't actually mean they've done it.
Besides, it's not a binary situation where we either spend spend spend or cut the squad that they're so uncompetitive.
The trick to being a good club owner is being able to keep the playing side competitive whilst not breaking the bank. It's easy to spend no money and not be successful.
We will bring in more money when we get more fans. We will get more fans when we get success (or through a concerted, serious and sustained attempt to engage the community). That's the owner's job.
Just because someone points out that we are not competitive (and still losing money) doesn't mean that they're asking for a Man City style spending spree.
Just like the Government, misunderstanding of business finance leads to people simply think "We're broke, spend less" without realising that in both scenarios lack of investment also leads to falling income. Just like in a recession, we need to run a defecit briefly to get us going again. When we're doing well we can look to pay down the debt. Cutting at our lowest point will just result in us spiralling downwards into obvilion.
