What Is John Clarke? (1 Viewer)

In todays Telegraph John Clarke admits that he shoulders some of the blame for the demise of the club, hindsight is a beautifull thing isnt it. A club that can not converse with its fans on a daily basis has a board member who built his reputation and personel fortune in the PR world and only now does he come out with statements like square pegs in round holes. Its way too late for the PR guru to stick his head above the parrapet now, it should have been done a long time ago when he knew that Orange Ken was systematically pulling apart the internal fabric of the club. If he didnt have the balls to go public on what was being done to the club behind the scenes he should have at the very least contacted the powers that be within SISU to inform them what was happening to their investment insted of falling in behind Orange Ken and Igwe like a lap dog, at least Hoffman had the morals to stand up for what he believed was right.

That brings me on to the SISU and the Igwe factor. On paper wether we like it or not SISU are a highly regarded investment company with a track record for making their clients money. They as a company have a management structure very similar to the one that is run by my employers in that they leave a person in over all control of one part of the business and let them run it. This is where they have failed big time, the man accountable for us Onye Igwe is now no longer around to answer any questions and seems to have gone to ground. It has been reported that he does not have a connection with SISU any more which must indicate that he and SISU have had a parting of the ways. If my part of the business that I work for is under performing and not hitting budget I would expect to loose my job I wonder if the same has happend to Onye. As the Fund manager he has lost his company a lot of money, that is where the blame lies with SISU. I have a monthly accounts review with flash forcasts at 10 and 20 days which go towards the management accounts. These contain KPI,s which my bosses measure my effectiveness by. To run a business effectivley SISU must have had KPI's in place, if these are to stringent then the business may fail, if they are not being worked to then the business will definately underperform. If these checks and balances were not being followed and Igwe, who we know had no football knowledge what soever, was letting Orange Ken run amock, then its no wonder SISU find them selves in the position they are today. If the real dealings and offers for the club that transpired from Hoffman last year had actually been passed on to the real money men at the top of the structure, instead of being played out like a Shakepeare play so Orange Ken could get some national headlines we may still be in the championship.

I am not a supporter of SISU or Clarke as I believe they are both culpable in the demise of our great club. This could be however be a turning point in both their and our fortune. We have now as is reported today recruited an experienced football man in ex FA commercial director Paul Barber, a man who the FA fought to keep and is by all accounts good at what he does. Having worked for the FA he also has an insight into PR and theirfore we should now dispence of the services of John Clarke. People that I know have said that Tim Fisher has gone a long way to repairing the distrust and staff moral of the people behind the scenes at the club after King Ken had left the scenes and has done a lot to stabilise the ship. He is not a football man but does recognise the need for the manager to be left to run the footballing side of the club and he did lay the foundations for Charlton to take our place.

If SISU see their only way out of this from a proffit point of view they have 2 options. As Fisher has said he is talking to the Hoff but no offer has yet been made, so that means they can either liquidate the assets or build properly and reap the rewards of a successfull team. A team that we can all be proud of playing attractive football will return the club to the Championship and give SISU a more saleable asset. If Joy Seppala is attending another match any time soon, I would also suggest that she roles up her sleaves and activley engages with the city council and the higgs trust and start building bridges. Most of us City fans would think a lot more of her if she admitted that the schmuks that have been at the club have got it wrong and she wants to put it right. As supporters we want to here the news straight, wether its good or bad, not the diet of smoke and mirrors and bullshit we have had for the last 5 years. SISU are not 99% of the supporters choice to own our club but they are at the minute the only ones that want to be. Fans can be fickle especially after what we have been through, but a promotion and a couple of good seasons can turn things right around for all of us only the next 4 months will tell if SISU are up to it and trust the new management team to do the job they are employed to do. If that happens I may renew my four season tickets, if not they can go to hell in a hand cart.

The alternative CT story. "John Clarke admits...
COVENTRY CITY'S vice chairman John Clarke has shouldered his share of the blame for Coventry City’s slump into League One.

Last March, the millionaire who apparently has not invested any of his own money in the club sat alongside Ken Dulalley, Len “text a sub” Brody, Paul “no clout” Clouting and Onye Igwe (random Nigerian bloke) and declared them the most impressive board that he had seen in his 25 years at the club.

But at the weekend, when confronted with the blindingly obvious, he finally admitted that perhaps he had got it wrong.

“I said at the time it was the best board I’d known in terms of skill sets and on paper it was,” he said, “but I am a fucking clueless twat who will say anything in return for a plate of scotch eggs and a pint of mild...

“There is a case for saying, without naming any names, that we’ve had a right twat on the board who took it upon himself to sit next to Andy and the coaching team in the dugout.

"Yes, I do take some responsibility, but since Tim came on board as chief executive in December we’ve had no more changes in chief executive which clearly means we have reached a point of stability and I am not quite sure how my responsibility has anything to do with Tim but hey ho ... you’re not recording this conversation are you?

“It’s been very tough, with lots of sleepless nights, but then I never sleep well after scoffing a plate of scotch eggs.

Clarke underlined the depth of City’s current financial problems when he recalled: “When I was on the board in 1993 the overdraft was £5million. With the help of me, past and current board members we have managed to burn nearly £125m over 15-16 years which I think you would all agree is money well spent.

“We’ve got a huge task over the summer to sell tickets but the two key principles of the current team – and it’s very small – are (1) tell as many lies as we can to persuade fans to buy season tickets and (2) SISU comes first.

“People remember the dreadful time when we were relegated from the Premier League and we are very much hoping that they will fail to remember the dreadful time when we were relegated from the Championship.

“It can be difficult when you are relegated and grieving to start taking about positives because it can be misinterpreted as simply trying to con the fans into buying season tickets.

“But I was talking to the Doncaster chairman and they are looking at it positively because their fans are complete mugs just like ours.

"I wouldn’t like to call it an opportunity because it isn’t but hey I am trying to sound positive as Tim told me to be upbeat.

“We have done it before and we have to show the same unity, determination and vision we had in the days of Bryan Richardson and Geoffrey Robinson. Treat the fans with scorn.”

While I agree with most of what's been said, I think you'll find Clarke did put some money in. Not talking millions. But there are two occasions I know of from the press where he has put cash in.

I'm worried for the club's future as I'm not convinced by The Hoff. Keys states all over Twitter how his investors are raring to go and the Hoff states they're biding their time?!? Haven't they had enough? What are they waiting for? All a bit too convenient! Sounds like another Dhinsa to me.
